Cultivating a home filled with decor that speaks to you isn't always an easy or affordable endeavor. From area rugs to seating to wall art, there are so many pieces that go into a well-balanced, attractive interior design. High-end lighting can be especially pricey if you're looking for something truly special. Luckily, there are ways to work around staggering price tags. If you're savvy and willing to get creative, you can foster a home filled with cost-effective decor without compromising on style. All it takes is a bit of motivation and some clever DIY magic. If you're looking for accent lighting ideas on a budget, look no further than IKEA.

Instagram creator menawox shared a delightfully playful yet simple DIY lamp she created using lifebuoy ring-inspired candle holders from IKEA and a few other simple items. The result was a vibrant, bulbous table lamp with a globe light top. This super-easy DIY perfectly plays into the dopamine decor trend, featuring blocks of bright colors and a funky edge. It would be the perfect addition to a maximalist or retro-inspired home design. You can easily recreate this project in a day's time. And the best part? You'll only need a few items for this project — three Trädstam pillar candle holders, a battery-operated globe light, and mounting adhesive.

How to craft your own high end lamp with the IKEA candle holders

Start this project by applying a generous line of mounting adhesive along the top of one of the circular candle holders. Place a second candle holder directly on top of the first one. Repeat this step for the second and third candle holders, stacking the three pieces on top of each other neatly. Try to stagger the stripes so the different colors of the candle holders form a sort of checkerboard pattern. It doesn't have to be perfect. Stacking them like this will just help give the piece better visual flow. After this, all you have to do is flip on your globe lamp and rest it on top of the stack of candle holders.

This is just one affordable, creative lighting tip you can explore with these simple materials. You can put your own spin on this project by using the same items to create a DIY wall sconce. You'll need one Trädstam pillar candle holder, hanging hardware, mounting adhesive, velcro adhesive wall strips, and a battery-operated globe light. Start by attaching a hanging bracket on the back of your candle holder with mounting adhesive. Once that's dry, cut strips of the adhesive wall strips to fit the back of the globe light. Place the other side of the adhesive strip on the candle holder. Now attach the two pieces. Hang it on your wall and instantly elevate your space with a whimsical, one-of-a-kind wall sconce. You can stick with one light, or you can create a set of these sconces to frame your bed, couch, or doorway. Who needs expensive, high-end lighting when you can create your own so easily?
