Whether you're looking to select the best air mattresses for your spare bedroom or you have an upcoming camping trip on the horizon, Consumer Reports has released its latest assessment of the top brands for 2026. In 2026, the top air mattress brands, according to CR, are Simmons Beautyrest, Intex, and Coleman. 

Consumer Reports specifically highlights two main areas when testing air mattresses: deflection and convenience. Deflection is the normal loss of firmness that happens with air mattresses over time. This process is natural and is typically caused by stretching PVC material, temperature drops, or natural air leakage. Good or bad deflection is a factor that can mean the difference between a good or bad night's sleep. To test deflection, 250-pound weights are placed on each mattress and readings are calculated to check for air leakage over time. 

When it comes to convenience, Consumer Reports looks at both ease of use and storage. An air mattress that takes forever to blow up will not score high for convenience. The intended storage of the product is also evaluated, because a large, unwieldy air mattress without a place to store it is not very convenient for anyone. Additionally, Consumer Reports always tests the queen size of each air mattress product.

The air mattress brands that rank the highest per Consumer Reports perform well in both deflection and convenience. Paying attention to both is a good tip to keep in mind when buying an air mattress of your own. For single-height air mattresses, Consumer Reports rates the Coleman QuickBed Single High and the Intex Classic Downy the highest, with both performing well in the deflection category. Both of these single-height mattresses have claimed weight capacities of 600 pounds.  Both brands are notable for their quick inflation times (four minutes or less) and weigh under 10 pounds. However, the Intex mattress is not as convenient as the Coleman selection, nor is it rated as high as its double-height counterpart.

For double-height air mattresses, Consumer Reports rates the Intex Comfort Plush Elevated Dura-Beam and the Simmons Beautyrest Hi Loft Raised the highest, both having stellar ratings for deflection. Both of these-double height mattresses come with storage bags for added convenience, as well as sheet-holding edges to hold sheets on tight. The Intex mattress has a slightly smaller capacity at 600 pounds, compared to the Simmons Beautyrest claimed capacity of 700 pounds. These brands notably feature products weighing less than 20 pounds with quick inflation times of six minutes and under.
