Neither Wolf Nor GE: Consumer Reports' Top Kitchen Appliance Brand For Gas Stoves

Finding the right gas stove can leave you feeling a little like you're Goldilocks. One is too hard to clean, one doesn't produce hot enough flames, and another won't simmer well. That's where Consumer Reports comes in, which ran extensive tests to help potential buyers pick out a gas stove. After a year of rigorous testing, the non-profit organization determined that LG is the best gas stove brand. 

LG may be one of the more unreliable appliance brands when it comes to fridges, but several of its ranges took top spots in Consumer Reports' rankings, and one stood out among the rest: the LG LSDL6336F. While GE also ranked high on the list, it couldn't beat LG's owner satisfaction scores. Gas ranges from Wolf didn't even make it to the top ranks, with baking and broiling settings only receiving a passing score when tested by Consumer Reports.

According to the organization, the best gas ranges were picked after baking thousands of cookies and hundreds of cakes in the oven over the course of the year. The cooktops were also tested to see how quickly they heated water and the simmering ability of each burner. Cooking space and reliability were taken into account as well. That means, to get the top score, a gas stove had to be pretty great in all of these categories, which is the case with the LG LSDL6336F. Its cooktop scored above average, and its oven earned excellent scores for baking and broiling.

The LG LSDL6336F range features a five-burner gas stove and a 6.3-cubic-feet electric oven. It is made of fingerprint-resistant stainless steel and offers a range of advanced features, like an air sous vide mode, an air fry mode, a built-in temperature probe, and an integrated griddle, as well as smart connectivity. Consumer Reports says that it heats water rapidly and bakes and broils evenly.

The LSDL6336F's customer reviews are overall positive, as well. Across websites such as Lowe's, Home Depot, Costco, and Best Buy, ratings are in the 4-star range. "Functionally fantastic, easy to clean, consistent temps, controllable flames, lots of choices. Really great," said one five-star reviewer on Best Buy.

However, there are a few complaints from customers about the oven. While the temperature inside is consistent, it's not necessarily accurate. Some reviewers have mentioned it can be as far as 30 degrees off, while others say that it refuses to get above a certain temperature. Three other LG ovens made it to Consumer Reports' top list, including the LG LSGL6335D, which ranked second. "The broiling performance isn't as strong as that of [the LG LSDL6336F], perhaps in part because the oven on this model is gas, not electric," Consumer Reports says about the LSGL6335D. When it comes to cost and efficiency in gas vs. electric ovens, the latter is considered better, as electric ovens tend to have more consistent heat. Additionally, the LSGL6335D model doesn't have quite as many features, like the air sous vide mode.

Still, this model is a good choice for those who prefer a gas oven. "I recently purchased an LG gas stove, and I'm very happy with it. The oven bakes and roasts evenly, delivering great results every time. The stovetop is efficient, heats up quickly, and the overall design is sleek and modern," said a five-star reviewer on LG's website.

While both of these are great options, you'll still want to take your personal needs into account when choosing the perfect range oven for your kitchen. This includes figuring out your desired size and cost, so you don't end up with something that doesn't work well in your home or puts a serious hole in your wallet.
