Adding garden art and decor to your yard or other outdoor living spaces is a fun way to bring some whimsy to your home. Even if your garden is small, located on a small patio, or is in a windowsill, if you use a lot of planters, you can still add some art into the mix with unique DIYs. While there are a few different DIYs that let you create the cutest ladybug decor for your yard, one creator has made things even easier with the help of a glue gun and some paint. If you're looking for some unexpected yet genius hacks for using hot glue, you may want to consider using it to decorate planters.
In a reel posted by fleurulia on Instagram, the crafter made mini ladybug pieces that she then attached to the side of a metal planter. To make these ladybugs, she used a hot glue gun, red paint, a black paint pen with a fine or extra fine tip, and a clear coat. Other supplies you need for this project include parchment paper and a glue that would work on metal (if you're applying these ladybugs to a metal planter), such as E600 Craft Adhesive, as well as whatever planter you plan to use.
How to make your own mini ladybugs for planters
You can personalize any home decor on a budget with a hot glue gun, even projects that might end up outside. To make your hot glue ladybugs, start by placing a piece of parchment paper on a table. You're going to make small circles of glue on the parchment paper that you leave to dry. Once the glue hardens, paint the entire round with red paint, and when that dries, take the black paint pen and create the black half-circle at the edge that represents the face or front of the ladybug. You'll also want to draw the stripe down the back and small dots to complete the look of your bug.
After everything dries, go over it with a clear topcoat, which will give your mini ladybugs a glossy appearance and protect them from chipping. From there, peel the ladybugs off the parchment paper and then glue them to the body of your planter with adhesive. You can make as many of these mini figures as you want and create an entire scene of ladybugs crawling up your planters.
If you're looking to customize this project, you can make different sizes of circles to create both small, medium, and large ladybugs. In a comment on the reel, one viewer shared that they planned to paint their bugs pink, which is another way to make this DIY your own. You could also mix up the colors and do multicolored ladybugs, as there are a wide variety of colors that ladybugs naturally come in, such as yellow, purple, and brown.
