Not Baskets: The Vintage Find That Makes Storing Spare Toilet Paper Beautiful

If you enjoy surrounding yourself with pretty and well-designed details, there's no reason that style and elegance should stop at the bathroom door. Even something as utilitarian as toilet paper can be beautified. For example, you can find vintage pieces that double as toilet paper storage, which is a great way to turn a necessity into a small decorative moment that adds to the space rather than cluttering it. 

For example, TikTok creator @kenziemariehome found a brass bowl that she turned into a stunning toilet paper holder. The idea is to wrap the toilet paper roll with a decorative paper napkin and tuck it into the bowl. Then, the decorated roll of toilet paper can be placed on top of the toilet tank, adding a bit of visual impact to the space. It's a hack that allows you to store toilet paper in the open and make it look decorative. This is perfect for storing an extra roll of toilet paper in your guest bathroom, but it also works if you'd like to make your regular bathroom feel like a classy hotel. 

First, you need a decorative bowl. Because a roll of toilet paper is about 5 inches in diameter, you'll want something that's a bit larger than that. You can use decorative bowls or small planters, which you can find at your local thrift store or on eBay. The only other thing you need are decorative paper napkins. These will be used to wrap the toilet paper roll, so choose a pattern that fits the design of your bathroom.

Make sure to thoroughly clean the bowl or pot. Because you're bringing it in the bathroom and using it for sanitary products, you don't want any dirt, mold, or bacteria leftover from its previous owners (or the factory). Simple dish soap, water, and a hard bristle brush should work, but a dash of vinegar is always helpful for santization. 

Next up, wrap the roll of toilet paper with your decorative paper napkin. Nothing complicated — unfold the napkin, place the roll at the center, and fold the napkin to cover it. Push the leftover napkin at the top and bottom into both ends of the roll. Then, add the wrapped toilet paper roll into the decorative bowl and place it in your bathroom. This is perfect to go on the back of toilets on top of the tank, but it can also be displayed on a shelf, counter, or side table. 

Obviously, this hotel-style paper toilet wrapping is best used for extra rolls of toilet paper that are not currently in use. Whenever you run out, this storage solution makes replacing the empty roll convenient: Simply take it out of the pot, remove the paper napkin, and place it on the holder. If you're the one doing it, you can keep the decorative paper napkin and wrap another extra roll with it. If your guests are the ones opening the new roll, they can simply throw the decorative napkin into the bin. It's easy, it's classy, and it's a little touch that can make your home feel more luxurious.
