Costco Has A Versatile Sliding Solution For Cabinet Clutter
Eliminating cabinet clutter is a multi-step process: after systematically eradicating excess inventory, you'll need to track down better storage solutions to manage what remains. For deep cabinets, sliding baskets and shelving can bring otherwise out-of-reach items into your grasp. Costco has one such product — the TRINITY Wire Basket with Slide — that customers say is helping them make the most of their space.
Retailing for $84.99, the TRINITY Wire Basket with Slide, 2-pack is designed to use cabinet space more efficiently. The baskets are made from durable steel, measuring 17 ¾ inches long by 13 inches wide by 9 ¼ inches deep (bear in mind that the total height with the slider bars is 10 ¾ inches deep and will require a cabinet opening of 15 inches in width). Each basket can hold up to 50 pounds, making them pretty sturdy for a wide range of uses. In the kitchen, you could store countertop appliances like an air fryer or Instant Pot, when not in use, or large, nesting mixing bowls (for corner cabinets, check out IKEA's smarter storage solution). These TRINITY baskets can be a better way to organize deep bathroom cabinets, too, helping you to efficiently store styling tools and extra supplies.
At the time of writing, customers had given this product a 4.6-star average from 77 reviews. Feedback includes praises about the baskets' ability to make a cabinet more organized, although some reviews outline a tricky installation process. One five-star review on Costco's website states, "Relatively easy to install and very robust feeling. Quality product."
Improving product performance
The steel construction of these sliding wire baskets makes them durable and likely to last for many years; in the same breath, the metal body runs the risk of being noisy when loading the basket with glass or metal items or when maneuvering the basket in or out. The open grid design of the basket bottoms also could cause appliance cords to fall through the openings, making it difficult to get items off of the basket. One Costco customer review, in fact, states, "[I] wish they would provide [a] solid bottom, otherwise [they are] ok."
In order to work around this challenge, there are a couple paths you could take. Firstly, a placemat situated in the bottom of the basket can provide a solid, wipeable surface, which can also dampen any clanging noise from dishes or items being put away or retrieved. Dollar Tree's placemats actually are surprisingly close in dimension to the basket bottom — with this Moroccan Tile placemat measuring 11 inches wide by 17 inches long — but you could also easily trim down the sides of a plastic placemat to make it fit perfectly. Another option is to find a wooden serving tray that fits in the bottom, providing a solid bottom and an edge around to keep cords tucked up neatly. This affordable Wood Serving Tray ($7.99 at Michael's) is one potential product to consider, measuring 12 inches wide by 14 inches long, though you may find another one or combination of trays that is compatible, suitable for your needs, and helpful for keeping cabinets tidy and clutter-free.
