Turn Dollar Tree Wire Baskets & An Old Table Leg Into Stylish DIY Storage

Are you tired of the same old, cookie-cutter storage ideas for keeping things organized around your home? From basic shelves and closets to regular bins and baskets. It can get a little boring, especially if you prefer unique pieces that stand out not just as storage solutions but as decor as well. Well, you could walk into a high-end store and grab the most intriguing storage items there, but those can easily cost a fortune. So why not create something of your own using affordable Dollar Tree items? YouTube creator Heidi Sonboul DIY does a great job demonstrating how easy it is to make a stylish DIY storage solution using simple Dollar Tree wire baskets and an old table leg. The end result is a two-tier basket stand that truly looks high-end.

Basically, you need to get two of these Essentials Round Vinyl-Coated Wire Baskets, some zip ties, and a small wooden pallet all from Dollar Tree. Then find an old table you no longer use (or pick one up from a thrift store) and detach one of its legs. You'll also need hot glue and glue sticks, a drill, a wire cutter, a couple of label stickers, and a wooden doorknob. Lastly, channel your creative genius into the project so you can make it your own.

How to DIY a stylish Dollar Tree storage solution

Once you're ready to embark on this clever decor and storage DIY using Dollar Tree items, gather all the supplies and let's get moving. Begin by attaching the wooden pallet to the bottom of the table leg with one or two screws. This will allow the table leg to stand upright on its own. Next, we want to attach the two Dollar Tree baskets to the leg. First, cut out a hole at the bottom of each basket using a wire cutter. Make the holes big enough for the table leg to fit snugly.

We're now ready to attach the first basket to the bottom of the table leg. Drill two holes through the table leg in criss-crossing directions, one just above the other, 2 or 3 inches from the bottom of the leg. Pass one zip tie through each hole so they cross each other. Push the table leg through the hole of one basket and bring the basket to the level where we have the zip ties. Now, you're going to pass the ties through the wire mesh at the basket's base, then tighten them securely. Repeat the same process with the other basket to attach it at a higher point on the table leg. You now have your two-tier basket stand. All that's left to do is jazz it up.

Customize your Dollar Tree DIY storage solution

The YouTube creator glued a round wooden drawer knob to the tip of the table leg, painted the stand white, added label stickers on the side of each basket, and stuck faux greenery to the base of the stand. To make your piece stand out, consider swapping the knob for a loop handle either made from twine or a leather cord, which you can tie in place by first drilling a hole through the top end of the table leg. Give the entire stand a coat of black or gold paint for a modern look. You can also weave twine rope around the baskets to give your two-tier basket stand a rustic feel. Or add unique adornments to the baskets like ribbon bows instead of the labels.

Once you're satisfied with the look of your storage stand, place it on your kitchen countertop to hold fruits or vegetables. Your craft room, laundry room, or bedroom can also benefit from this stylish organizer. It's one of those great storage ideas for keeping small items organized without hogging space, thanks to the tiered design.
