For many, gardening is a relaxing hobby that comes with the inspirational satisfaction of seeing all of your efforts pay off in the form of beautiful flower beds, lush green grass, and vibrant, thriving plants. And one of the tools that helps make this possible is the trusty garden hose. The thing with hoses, though, is that you need to have a solid storage solution for them or you'll find that they can create a bit of an eyesore in your yard. There are several devices that you can buy to help store the hose in your yard and keep it out of sight, but one creative YouTuber, @passionatelyintriguedarts, shared her awesome take on how to keep a 200-foot, heavy-duty hose tidily stored with a DIY.

She was able to creatively upcycle discarded wooden pallets and part of a portable toilet stand into an easy storage solution that can hold two 100-foot garden hoses — all with zip ties potentially being the only material that needs to be purchased. The finished project appears sturdy, practical, and effective at solving a real issue faced by gardeners, particularly those with larger lawns. Considering the fact that a hose reel big enough for longer hoses can cost upwards of $150, this idea also sounds like a welcome solution for budget-conscious gardeners.

Building and customizing your budget-friendly hose holder

Part of what makes this storage hack so appealing is its simplicity. The YouTuber appears to have built the stand by placing both pallets upright and adjoining them with the portable toilet piece as a base — an effective way to keep the hoses off the ground. The overall design also appears fairly sturdy, especially considering that the pallets were secured together using, as she puts it, "a lot of zip ties." She even added a touch of style by finishing the final design with a layer of dark-colored stain.

This flexibility of this budget-friendly DIY is its superpower, as it's easy to customize with a wide range of alternatives and additions. You can incorporate unique features for your double-hose setup, such as hooks for nozzles or organizing garden tools. You can even get crafty with the materials you have accessible to you. For example, if you can't find pallets at your local grocery store or warehouse, consider building your own version of the structure from scratch using 2-by-4s and 1-by-4s.

You can also add some caster wheels to the bottom for easier mobility — this will keep the wood from sitting on wet soil. This simple modification alone can make the heavy structure much easier to move around, especially if you have a sizable yard. However, one recommendation would be to find alternative fasteners to the zip ties. Even UV-resistant zip ties, such as Anoson's 400-pack, would have more longevity in an outdoor environment than those designed for indoor use, as would stainless steel clamps or screws.
