Ditch Linen Closet Clutter: The Folding Hack That Make Storing Sheets A Breeze

Is your linen closet one of those out-of-sight, out-of-mind situations? That is, until it's time to make a fresh bed and you have to rummage through all the cluttered piles of mismatched sheets and pillow cases to find what you need. You open the closet door, and your shoulders slump when you realize how long it's going to take to find all the pieces to make up the guest bed (and then you panic-toss everything out of the closet because they just called to say they're five minutes out). Now imagine if your linen closet were full of neatly folded bedding bundles and you could quickly grab one, knowing it included everything you need to make a fresh bed. Turns out, it's easier than you may think to make that a reality.

You can keep sheets organized with a folding hack that improves your linen closet storage in a few easy steps. Simply lay out each item you need to make a full bed — a fitted sheet, flat sheet, and pillowcases — layering them on top of each other. Then use the pocket-fold method to bundle it all together in a tidy square. Now you have a little bed bundle that's ready to go the next time you need to make up a bed. It can be neatly stowed away in a linen closet by stacking multiple bundles on top of one another or lining them up vertically like books on a shelf. Alternatively, you can use organizing boxes or bins so they don't get mixed in with other non-bedding linens.

How to fold bedding bundles to store sheets without clutter

We already know how to pocket fold towels for easy access and organization. Now we're going to use that same idea to make bedding bundles. The first thing you'll want to do is pull all your bedding and linens out of the closet and group them into full sets. This means each pile contains one fitted sheet, one flat sheet, and as many pillowcases as you typically have pillows on the bed. Make sure each group of sheets is for the same size bed.

Beginning with a single group of bedding items, spread out the flat sheet. Then lay the fitted sheet on top of that, folding it if needed so that it fits neatly within the edges of the flat sheet. Layer on the pillow cases or, optionally, hold those out until the end. Once your stack is complete, fold it into thirds: fold the right side inward by a third, then fold the left side over that. Then fold it in half once more in that same position. Now fold the top down, followed by the bottom up to meet in the middle. Once more, fold it in half, this time inserting one half into the other like a pocket. If you held the pillow cases out, you can fold them now and slide them into the pocket of the sheet set.

Repeat this process for each of the sheet sets you pulled out of the closet. Once you've stored all your bedding bundles, you can fully declutter your linen closet by tossing these 12 commonly stored items, and keep things organized for good.
