Who Manufactures IKEA Ovens?

IKEA is known for its quirky Swedish-inspired product names and home decor essentials that are worth buying. If you're an IKEA loyalist, you may have also looked into the company's line of kitchen appliances, including its ovens. Whether you're interested in a range or a wall oven, IKEA has you covered. But who is actually responsible for manufacturing their ovens? The answer depends on when you purchase an oven from IKEA.

In 2014, IKEA struck up a partnership with Whirlpool, a globally-recognized company that manufactures kitchen appliances under the Amana, Maytag, and KitchenAid brands. However, in 2020, Frigidaire (owned by Electrolux) took over the manufacturing process for the bulk of IKEA kitchen appliances in North America, including ovens. So, if you purchased an oven from IKEA before 2020, it was most likely made by Whirlpool. But if you bought one more recently or are considering a purchase now, odds are Frigidaire/Electrolux manufacture it.

Is it better to buy an oven from IKEA or directly from the manufacturer?

IKEA is one of the appliance stores with the longest return policy and offers a price guarantee, meaning if a product you've already bought goes on sale, you might be eligible for that same lower price. However, you should also factor in overall cost and warranty terms before you buy. It could end up making more sense to buy an oven directly from Electrolux or Whirlpool.

Comparing prices between companies can be tricky because the products aren't always an apples-to-apples comparison, but if you have an idea of the features and design that you want, it's relatively easy to narrow down your options and compare the price tag. For example, Whirlpool's model WOES3030LS is a 30-inch oven featuring a stainless steel exterior and self-cleaning and broiling options, coming in at $1,198. IKEA's VASKARBO wall oven is the same size and material as Whirlpool's and has similar features, but is also a convection oven and costs a bit more at $1,599.

Warranty terms can differ between companies and are definitely worth considering if you're buying a major appliance like an oven. IKEA's kitchen appliances, including ovens, come with a standard five-year warranty that covers issues with materials or quality of work. Whirlpool and Electrolux, on the other hand, both offer a one-year warranty on their ovens. If you buy direct from one of the manufacturers, you may want to consider whether an extended warranty for kitchen appliances is worth the money.
