Having something extra is always nice, and that includes blankets. The problem, though, is storing them once the season changes or the guests have gone home. Eventually your closets will run out of space, and if not, pulling a single blanket out can sometimes feel like a chore — especially when all you want to do is grab one quickly to use. One solution to this storage inconvenience is to keep the blankets nearby, but out of sight, such as inside of a tote bag, like the DoYiKe Extra Large Storage Duffle Bag at Amazon.

This tote bag comes in nine different sizes, including xxlarge, xxxlarge, xxxxlarge, and xxxxxlarge. The xxxxxlarge tote measures 60 inches long, 18.5 inches wide, and 28 inches high, and can store a 9-foot Christmas tree. For something a bit smaller, enough to fit a few favorite blankets, the xxlarge is 42 inches long, 13.5 inches wide, and 23 inches tall. The bags are made from polyethylene, making them tear-proof and waterproof.

You can also fold the bag flat when you're not using it. The bags currently have over 3,100 reviews. About 80% of customers give the product five stars, while 11% give it four, and 5% give it three stars. A total of 4% of customers give it either one or two stars. Users overall comment on the bag's "spacious" construction, and overall storage capacity. That said, customers are not in agreement on the bag's material, with opinions given on both sides.

Clean and dry your blankets before storing them in bags

A giant tote bag can definitely help store extra blankets. However, it will not fix one of the biggest mistakes people often make when storing blankets: folding and putting blankets away before they're actually clean and completely dry. This is important as even a slightly damp blanket can come out of storage smelling musty. So before you pack your stack away, be sure to wash or clean each blanket according to its care label. Plus, give it enough time to dry all the way through.

For cleaning everyday cotton, linen, polyester, and many fleece blankets, the washing machine is usually fine. Use a delicate or gentle cycle, and avoid overloading the washer. (You can also use a bit of vinegar to avoid static build-up while washing blankets, if that's something you tend to deal with.) Natural materials, meanwhile, will need a different approach. For example, wool, cashmere, alpaca, and similar delicates may need dry cleaning, hand-washing, or a special wool cycle.

Something else to keep in mind, is that sometimes clothes moths are drawn to animal-based fibers like wool, and stains from sweat and body oils.  So, one more reason to take the time to clean your blankets properly before storing them. Also, while something like the DoYiKe bag can make blanket storage easier, it's not the secret to keeping your bedding fresh and clean. That said, you can help it be a good storage space for your blankets by ensuring the bag is dry, and has adequate airflow.
