Hair tools and accessories have a way of creating clutter in the bathroom. From brushes and combs on the counter to larger tools like hair dryers and flat irons, they take up lots of countertop, cabinet, or shelf space. Did you know that you can organize your bathroom hair tools with some unexpected Dollar Tree items? By following an easy DIY from FABEDhacks on YouTube, you can transform a round cutting board and a few mesh pencil holders from Dollar Tree into the perfect hair tool caddy that's ideal for containing all that clutter. It works both on a countertop and in a cabinet. If you have a really deep drawer in the bathroom, it may even fit inside one of them, keeping the hair tools neatly organized but out of sight.
On your next visit to your local Dollar Tree, grab a Jot Jumbo Metal Pencil Cup, three of the smaller Jot Metal Pencil Holders, a lint roller, and the clear, circular Cooking Concepts Glass Cutting Board. You'll also need some heavy duty adhesive, such as E6000 Plus Multi-Purpose Clear Glue, which is waterproof, works on both glass and metal, and is high temperature-resistant once fully cured. If you want to personalize your caddy, the clear glass cutting board also comes in a few patterns. We love the traditional Japanese asanoha (hemp leaf) design, but the board with "season everything with love" written on it is cute, too. Also, while the original project used the black metal pencil holders, there's no reason you couldn't opt for the silver ones instead. It all depends on how the accessories work with your existing bathroom door.
How to put together your own hair tool caddy with Dollar Tree products
Shopping completed, you're ready to turn these affordable Dollar Tree items into the cutest DIY storage basket for your hair care tools. Start by removing any stickers from the cutting board and pencil holders. Give all the Dollar Tree items a quick wipe with a soft cloth to remove fingerprints and dust. Arrange the three pencil holders on the cutting board, moving them around until you're happy with the placement. You can position them near the edge of the board, but don't let them overhang. Make sure to leave some space in the center for the caddy handle. If you wish, lightly mark where each pencil holder sits — you can erase it later, once the holders are glued in place, with a microfiber cloth and rubbing alcohol. When you're ready, glue each of the pencil holders to the glass cutting board.
To make the caddy handle, remove the lint roller tube and glue the body to the center of the cutting board, leaving the handle end sticking upwards. Let the glue dry overnight — E6000 takes at least 24 hours to cure — and then arrange your hair dryer, straightener, curling iron, and hairbrush (or whatever tools you own and use regularly) in the holders. For plug in hair tools, you could stick the tools themselves into the smaller pencil holders and keep the coiled cords contained in the large pencil holder. If you don't have multiple electric hair tools, you can also store brushes, combs, and loose hair accessories in the caddy. If you use a waterproof glue and spray the pencil holders with Polar Invisible Waterproof Sealer, you could even DIY an affordable shower caddy using these few Dollar Tree items.
