The 1980s was an iconic decade for many reasons, including the loud and unapologetic style of interior design that defined the era. Mirrors were a common piece of decor used in the '80s, and the mantra was "the bigger, the better!" Floor to ceiling mirroring was a wardrobe trend from the '80s, and for good reason. Mirrors naturally reflect light around a room, make a space feel bigger, and can come in handy for getting yourself ready in the morning, but do they have an appeal in todays world? Absolutely! Adding mirrored panels to a shaker style wardrobe offers a new take on the trend that feels modern and fresh.

To complete this sleek closet door DIY project, you will need paneled wardrobe doors, a tape measure, bespoke mirrored sheets, and some good quality mirror adhesive. Once your custom mirrored sheets have arrived, this project will take no time at all to complete, and the result will be rather striking.

How to DIY mirrored wardrobe doors

To upgrade your boring closet doors, begin by measuring each inside square panel of your wardrobe door. We recommend taking 2 millimeters or so off each measurement so there will be some wiggle room when you go to stick the mirrored sheet onto the panel later on. Once you are confident with your measurements, you can go ahead and order your bespoke mirrored sheets from a specialist manufacturer.

Now that you have your mirrored sheets, it's time to stick them onto your wardrobe doors. It's totally up to you whether you remove the doors first, but it may make it easier when applying the mirror adhesive. Apply the adhesive generously onto the mirrored sheets, being careful not to apply it too close to the edge to avoid it spilling out. We would advise against using any other type of adhesive that isn't specifically made for mirrors, as there's a risk of the damaging the mirror itself. Continue to stick down your mirrored sheet on to your door with a little pressure and leave it to fully set for at least 24 hours.

For a cheaper alternative to bespoke made sheets, you could opt for self-adhesive mirror sheets, like Zonon Flexible Mirror Sheets from Amazon, instead. They can be cut to size using a pair of scissors, but it's worth noting that they will be a lot more flimsy than the bespoke sheets. With that being said, however, they cost just under $8 for a pack of 10, making them a much more affordable way to achieve this look!
