There's An IKEA Solution To Store And Cover A Garden Hose In Style

A garden hose is essential for most people, but if you've spent time and energy turning your backyard into an oasis, it can be a bit of an eyesore just hanging off a wall. You can try to coil it up tidily, but it seems to have a habit of twisting or unraveling. One popular idea is to hide your hose away inside a container, like IKEA's GÅRDSBUTIK Bin ($39.99).

It's important to point out that although IKEA's bin has a 6-gallon capacity, it isn't really big enough to contain a traditional hose; rather, it works best with an expandable garden hose. For this project, the back of the GÅRDSBUTIK bin will be fixed to your wall, while the front levers forward to allow access to the hose and then hides it away neatly when not in use.

Over on TikTok, a creator who goes by Cosy_casa_ shows us the process. You will need a hammer drill, a sturdy utility knife, and an angle grinder. Instead of an angle grinder, the job could also be done with the utility knife if you are careful, or with a padsaw (or drywall saw).

Mark the back of the bin where the spigot needs to go through and carefully cut away this piece with a utility knife. Hold the back against the wall, use a level to ensure the top is horizontal, and mark where the hanging holes should go. Drill the wall, then insert wall anchors and screws to hang that piece. If you have any kind of automatic watering attachment, you'll also need to drill a hole in the bottom to feed the hose through.

Although it will take longer, you can use a straightedge and a utility knife. Just be careful not to apply too much pressure, or you could slip and cut yourself. You could also do it with a padsaw. It's nice to be neat, but you don't have to be too concerned because this part will be hidden inside. Finish the job by attaching your expandable hose and slotting the front part of the bin in place.
