Plus, if you're worried about the strong smell of pickles hanging around even after cleaning the jars, there's a solution for that! The secret to cleaning smelly glass jars is denture tablets. Once you've prepared your pickle jars, you can use them to DIY just about any type of container. You can even use an old pickle jar as a planter. But chances are, you've never thought of turning a pickle jar into a stunning flower vase.

TikToker @evebprojectsbackup shared a pickle jar flower vase project that is so simple, even beginners can pull it off. Start by selecting a shallow, bowl-shaped mold that is larger than the jar in diameter. A plastic bowl may be easier to release the cured cement from than a ceramic bowl. Coat the mold in oil to prevent the concrete from sticking or cracking. Then, place the jar open side down into the bowl and use a spoon to fill in cement around the rim until it sits level about one fourth of the way up the jar. Let that fully cure and release it from the mold. Then, fill the mold with cement to about the same level and press the bottom of the jar into the cement. Once that is fully cured, release it from the mold. Clean up any rough areas and you're left with a stunning modern flower vase.

First and foremost, cement DIY projects can pose serious health risks, so you will want to wear the appropriate protective equipment while mixing and pouring molds. At the very least, you will want to wear gloves, eye protection, and a mask, but it is best to cover all skin to prevent potential exposure to harmful contact with cement powder. If you are mixing your cement inside, it is also best to do it a room with good ventilation. Always mix your cement according to the instructions on the bag. For this project, you should be fine with a quick-dry cement mix from your local hardware store. Properly mixed cement should be the consistency of thick pancake mix.

Beyond safety, you'll want to make sure your cement releases from the mold easily, without cracking. Most DIYers recommend using cooking oil spray on the mold for an easy release, but you can also use other lubricants like motor oil. Spray the mold generously before pouring in the cement, but not so much that it pools at the bottom. Finally, if you get any cement on the central glass portion of the flower vase, try to wipe it off with a damp cloth and mild soap before it completely dries. If you wait until it is completely dry it can be much more difficult to remove from the glass. Stuck on cement might need a razor or an abrasive brush to fully remove.
