Woman Turns Stone Countertop Scraps Into A Luxurious DIY Coffee Table

Isabel Ladd of Isabel Ladd Interiors shows off her maximalist Kentucky oasis as part of the HGTV Home Tours series on YouTube, and there's a piece she shared that not enough people are talking about. It's the outdoor cabana's stone coffee table, which Ladd made with stone countertop remnants from a previous design project.  Viewers in the video's comment section remarks on Ladd's artistic finesse and DIY mindset, with one commenter praising her "exuberance and fearlessness," while another notes that "this woman is an artist," in reference to her painting and sewing skills. However, her ability to reimagine leftover countertop materials into a show-stopping coffee table — with storage? That deserves more attention.

The table, which appears to be made of terrazzo, consists of a two-tiered base and two removable triangular-shaped tabletops with storage underneath. What a great place to store some mosquito-repelling candles or less glamorous items like gardening tools. "How do I get good arms without exercising? It's like this kind of stuff." Ladd jokes as she lifts one of the heavy stone slabs off the base. Another functional aspect of the coffee table is its ability to take on different configurations by moving the pieces around.  Ultimately, this pro designer's ingenuity demonstrates why you should keep extra materials from your home improvement projects — you never know when they could be repurposed — saving you money and cutting down on consumer waste in the process.

Taking inspiration from Ladd's design

While Ladd doesn't go into specific details on how she transformed leftover stone countertop pieces into a statement coffee table, she likely worked with a professional to help her design come to life. Unless you're an experienced stone mason, it's important to leave the stone cutting and carving to the professionals with the know-how and tools to avoid injuries and costly mistakes.  If DIY is your style and you're intrigued by the design, crafting your own using wood could be a more approachable project.

If you're set on recreating Isabel Ladd's iconic stone coffee table and don't want to take on building a wooden version, you could DIY a lookalike for under $150. This square nesting table set on Amazon is $109 and has a similar vibe in terms of shape. It looks great on its own, but you could add terrazzo contact paper, which is designed to give the illusion of real terrazzo when applied. A 23-foot roll of contact paper on Amazon for under $28, and it's easy to apply, much like self-sticking wallpaper. If you're looking for something even more budget-friendly that requires no DIY, consider an option like this EUROCO white outdoor side table from Walmart for $76.99.
