Turn An Old Wicker Basket Into A Wall Storage Shelf Full Of Vintage Charm With A DIY

Storage is a key consideration in any home. Having somewhere to store your practical items such as toiletries or towels is key to ensuring that the surfaces you need every day are left clear of clutter. However, adding storage to your home doesn't mean you have to compromise on style. Instead, you can actually create your own DIY storage which is charming, effective, and affordable all at once.

To tackle this project yourself, you will need a few key items. First, an old wicker basket. These can be found at a thrift store for just a few dollars. Keep in mind when selecting your basket, however, that you will be mounting it on the wall. So, you may want to measure your room before you go shopping to work out how deep your basket can be without eating into the space you move in. Then, like in the video, you will need a piece of wood to serve as the shelf in your basket. 

Finally, if you are not a fan of the rustic look of a bare basket, you will also need some spray paint to cover both the basket and the wood shelf in a color of your choice. There are a few different ways to hang your basket, which we will explore in a moment, but you will likely also require a drill, some screws, and some drywall anchors. Once you have assembled all your materials, you will need to first fix your shelf in place inside the basket. To do this, first place the piece of wood horizontally inside the wicker basket and use a level to check that it isn't sitting on a slant. Then, using a drill and some screws, drill through the sides of the basket into each end of the piece of wood. When the shelf is in place, you can then spray paint both the wood shelf and the basket in whatever color you like. Remember that you could use multiple colors, too, to help the piece tie into more of your home's color scheme.
