Founded in Cleveland, Ohio, the company still operates its headquarters there, where it is classified as the largest manufacturer of paints and coatings in the world by revenue. Valspar produces a wide range of paints and coatings, from interior paints and primers to exterior wood stains. Some DIYers have been using Purdy brushes for decades. Originally founded in Portland, Oregon in 1925, Purdy was acquired by Sherwin-Williams in 2004 for $295 million.

Thompson's WaterSeal specializes in exterior wood sealers, multi-surface waterproofers, and more. Founded in the 1920s, the first major product was Thompson's WaterSeal Clear Multi-Surface Waterproofer.
