The Dazzling, Ultra-Rare Le Creuset Color You'd Be Lucky To Find Secondhand

Le Creuset is one of those iconic kitchenware brands. Since 1925, the brand has been synonymous with high-quality, enameled cast iron cookware. Part of that quality is the color of a Le Creuset piece; its bold colors are one reason why the brand is a favorite in many kitchens and among collectors. The brand's first color ever was Flame – originally called "Volcanique" — a vibrant orange color that's considered, to this day, Le Creuset's "most iconic color of all." But in the past 100 years, there have been hundreds of colors produced by Le Creuset, including the ultra-rare, interstellar Cosmos.

Originally released in 2017, Cosmos was a collaboration with Bloomingdale's: an exclusive blue-black Dutch oven with a celestial pattern of stars, plus a few other corresponding pieces without the pattern. Cosmos was then rereleased in 2020 as just the super blue-black color, a color meant to evoke space and its vast awesomeness. When it was originally released, the star-pattern Dutch oven was offered for $380, with other pieces starting at $165. However, very few pieces were ever actually made so coming across any piece from the collection would be a challenge today, even as Le Creuset collectors dream of finding it.

As the Le Creuset Cosmos colorway is no longer in production, and was a limited release to begin with, looking on the secondhand market is your only chance to find it today. It's among the rarest Le Creuset colors and patterns. In fact, it's so rare, nothing comes up for it at places like eBay, Etsy, or 1stDibs, where you might expect at least some kind of match.

On a Le Creuset subreddit, in early 2026, one Redditor reported this about the ultra-rare collection: "The last one I heard of being sold was a braiser that went for 6k. You heard that right. And I know the seller, so I know this isn't a myth." A follow-up comment from another Redditor shared that they saw "one sold on Mercari a few weeks ago for $700." There are even people posting about their Cosmos search efforts on sites like Poshmark.

If you're inspired to join the search for the extremely rare Cosmos, too, note that there are some other dark blue and black Le Creuset colorways worth taking a look at as well, that won't be quite as expensive or hard to find. For example, the Agave collection gives you a dark blue with an ombre effect, while the Nuit offers a more saturated navy blue — similar to Cosmos, but without the undertone of black.
