She Transforms A Book And Dried Flowers Into Breathtaking Table Decor With A DIY

For book lovers, having book-themed decor just makes sense. Sometimes, that means picking up premade items inspired by a favorite book or series, or it could mean making something yourself. If you like both flowers and books, then you might be looking for a project that combines these two things together. There are any number of DIY projects that let you transform a book into stunning floral home decor, including faux floral vases and wreaths. In order to make this floral book decor piece, you'll need to start with a hardcover book, preferably an older book where the spine is not as stiff so that it can open enough to lay flat once all the florals have been added between the pages. Other items you need for this project are an assortment of dried flowers (with stems), dried Spanish moss, hot glue, and a stapler. You may also need something like a wire to extend the length of the stems on some of the florals; it just depends on what you're using for this project. 

In order to make your floral book display, open the hardcover and leave about ten pages at the front and the back of the book untouched. Starting from the front of the book, after the pages you're not touching, take four pages and hold them together. Add the dried Spanish moss into the center of the book after the four pages you're holding, and then grab the next four pages, keeping the moss trapped between the two bundles of book pages. Next, take the stapler and staple the upper and lower corners of the bundle. This will keep the Spanish moss tucked into the book, giving you a pocket for the flowers to go into. Repeat this process until you reach the back of the book where the reserved pages are.

Once all of the moss has been added and the pages stapled together, it's time to place the flowers. This process requires some patience, because you'll want to determine where you place each flower before you glue them in. After you determine where you want your flowers to be in the book, add some glue to the end of each stem and stick it into the moss-filled pockets you created. Do this until the book is filled with flowers. You can add as many florals as you want to make your decor piece look plentiful.

While this project looks full and vibrant using the dried flowers, if you want to skip the dried flowers, opt for a faux flower DIY vase that follows the same steps. Another option is to mix and match the dried flowers with faux flowers to give your piece a fuller look without worrying about the stability of the dried flowers. 

If you really want to make this piece pop, add in some butterflies or birds. One suggestion made in the comments was to have a mini bird or butterfly peeking out from the moss, which would be a whimsical way of adding even more decor in between the page pockets. Another thing to think about with this DIY is that the moss is mostly loose within the pages of this book, so if you plan to move this piece around, some of the moss may fall out. Although the glue from the floral stems will help to keep the moss in place, you may want to consider adding a bit of glue when first adding in the moss as well. 

Also remember that hot glue is not permanent, so if you want this piece to last longer, consider adding a dab of something like Aleene's Clear Gel Tacky Glue alongside the hot glue. Overall, turning an old book into decor for your home can be easy, particularly with projects like this DIY; just remember that it can take time and patience to make them look the way you want them to.
