The Dollar Tree DIY That Creates Countertop Storage From Shower Curtain Rings

Add House Digest on Google:

Did you know you can use shower curtain rings for more than just hanging up your shower curtain? Those plastic rings may seem like they're only good for one thing, but they're actually incredibly versatile. Whether you want to transform curtain rings into a toilet paper holder or turn them into a bead curtain, this household staple may surprise you. But you haven't unlocked curtain rings' full potential until you've transformed them into countertop storage. You heard that right. By stacking and gluing the rings together, then finishing with a coat of paint, you've created a cute, practical storage solution for matchsticks, pens, pencils, and more.

For this project, you'll need a pack of clear shower curtain rings from Dollar Tree, along with glue (this Adhesive from RapidFuse is a good option), a white, flat spray paint (Rust-Oleum offers an Ultra Cover Spray Paint), a stone spray paint for a textured finish (like this Pebble Spray Paint from Rust-Oleum), some faux leather, scissors, a hot glue gun, and hot glue. Now that you have all the supplies, it's time to get started.

How to use shower curtain rings for countertop storage

Start by gluing the rings together. Apply a layer of glue to the first ring, then stack the second on top; repeat until all the rings are stacked on top of each other (the same shape as when they were in the package). Leave it to completely set overnight. When the glue is completely dry, apply two to three layers of your white spray paint. Wait a few minutes between each coat. Then, use your stone spray paint to lightly cover the rings until you reach your desired level of texture. Cut a strip of faux leather and hot-glue it to your ring stack. Place this strip over the ring connections to cover them. Finally, fill it up with whatever you'd like to store!

Your DIY storage container is perfect for matchsticks, and if you want, you can even add a matchstick striker to the bottom. You'll want to add a bottom piece for the striker to stick to, like a circle of cardboard. Here is a great Match Striker from Abvsdu. You can also spray-paint your container a different color to match your space, or paint designs or patterns on it. Instead of using a stone finish, try using this Metallic Mist Spray from Rust-Oleum for a shiny, pearl-like effect. Ultimately, you can decorate your storage container however you'd like. This Dollar Tree DIY project is the perfect chance for you to get creative and try something new. Don't throw away any extra shower curtain rings; repurpose them as purse storage, key rings, or even towel holders after you've finished this DIY.
