A ceiling fan might not be the first thing you think of when brainstorming ways to create storage, but this DIY might change your mind. Hometalk on YouTube was able to transform ceiling fan blades into stylish, wall-mounted storage using just burlap, Mod Podge, spray paint, a drill, scissors, and stencils. If you were just about to throw out an old ceiling fan, this clever craft is proof that you should consider repurposing the pieces before sending it to the dump.

If you don't have room for a hall tree, this creative idea might solve your entryway storage woes. The finished product looks like farmhouse-inspired wall decor, but it also functions as extra storage. It's a great option if you need a place to hang keys, umbrellas, and other everyday items. Start by removing the metal brackets from three flat ceiling fan blades. Next, use a bracket as a template to mark and drill new screw holes, positioning the brackets upside down so they can function as hooks. Clean and lightly sand the blades, then cut burlap pieces to fit each one. Brush the blades with Mod Podge and carefully place the burlap pieces on top of them, smoothing the the material down so that there are no bumps. To ensure that the burlap stays in place, also brush the material's exposed surface with watered-down Mod Podge.

Spray-paint the brackets black or the color of your choice. After allowing the paint and Mod Podge to dry, trim the burlap and install the brackets as hooks using the original hardware. So the burlap isn't blocking the holes you drilled, you may want to puncture it with an ice pick, awl, or similar pointy tool.

How to make this ceiling fan storage piece suit your space

Because it takes up no floor space, this brilliant solution will help you maximize space in your small entryway — and it can be completely customized to suit your style. As demonstrated by Hometalk, you can also add cup hooks to the top of the blades for additional hanging storage. These Eienhoshi Screw Hooks come in several different sizes. Stencils, patterns, or stamps can also be used to add decorative details. If you want to stick with the rustic theme, these Yanroom Farmhouse Stencils for Painting are vintage-inspired. Rather than stenciling designs, you can also paint freehand doodles if you have an artistic knack.

If you don't love the rustic look and you've decided it's finally time to transition away from modern farmhouse decor, you can take an entirely different approach. Instead of burlap, consider wrapping the blades in other fabrics like linen, velvet, or lace. Another customization option is to actually paint the fan blades or decoupage with decorative paper. You can easily create a more eclectic or refined look depending on the materials used.
