5 Common Problems With Frigidaire Appliances

Add House Digest on Google:

If you've personally experienced a brand-new Frigidaire appliance quitting on you, it might not just be a "you" problem. As a whole, Frigidaire is a well-known and widely-used appliance retailer. A big draw to the brand is its longstanding reputation and range of affordable products for customers on a budget. However, there seems to be an increasing sentiment that it's an unreliable appliance brand. Countless customer reviews across online platforms hint at things like faulty kitchen ranges, warm refrigerators, and warranty battles that are pure nightmare fuel. But how can you distinguish between disgruntled customer comments or user-error-related issues and an actual problem with the appliance itself?

While keyboard warriors and poor appliance upkeep are surely to blame for a few odd comments, the fact of the matter is that there are just too many bad examples to ignore. In Frigidaire's defense, there are also tons of positive reviews across its product lineup, with many appliances getting more 4- and 5-star ratings than 1- or 2- star ratings. In the r/appliances subreddit, users went back and forth about the brand's quality. Multiple commenters mentioned that Frigidaire "used to be" reliable, which could suggest changes in production and decreased quality in more recent models. By being aware of the most common problems with Frigidaire appliances, you can make better-informed buying decisions and weigh whether a $400 dishwasher or an under-$1,000 fridge is actually worth the hassle.

1. Refrigerators failing to cool and having ice or water dispenser issues

The most common complaints regarding Frigidaire refrigerators include failure to maintain a consistent cooling temperature and faulty ice-and-water dispensers. Some instances of these issues could be explained away as user errors like overfilling the fridge, accidentally covering the cooling vent, failing to clean dirty or clogged components, and not replacing the water filter. But it could also be an issue with the fridge itself. Cooling failures could point to problems with the evaporator fan or compressor. Ice-and-water dispenser problems may be caused by a faulty control board, dispenser door motor, or water inlet valve. Another concern that's worth highlighting is the lifespan of these refrigerators. Many buyers left comments on Consumer Affairs about how their fridge stopped working or needed replacement parts before or at the one year mark.

To play devil's advocate, plenty of Frigidaire models are still present in lineup of the best-selling refrigerators at Lowe's. The one that managed to get the second-highest spot, landing just behind a Whirlpool model, is the Frigidaire Standard-Depth Top-Freezer Refrigerator. This could support the idea that simpler fridge designs present less issues and are more reliable compared to the side-by-side, French door, or ice maker models. However, some customers still had trouble with getting this highly-ranked model to cool to 38 degrees Fahrenheit. This may not be a big deal if you're just relying on it for inside use, but putting it in a garage or other area without temperature control could lead to problems in warmer months.

2. Range ovens struggling to heat, and bake burner malfunctions

As for Frigidaire kitchen range appliances, the most common problems seem to stem from the oven failing to heat properly. For electric ranges, this could mean a defective bake element. For gas ranges, it implies that there's a failing igniter. In fact, over 170,000 of the company's gas ranges were recalled in March of 2026 because people were reporting burn-related injuries — which stemmed from the delayed ignition of the bake burner. Other owners experienced problems with getting the oven to heat evenly or remain at a consistent temperature. This could point to a bad temperature sensor or a damaged door latch that's preventing the oven from fully closing.

In spite of these issues, Frigidaire was still announced as the best electric range brand by Consumer Reports in 2026. It could all come down to which model you choose. In r/Appliances, many users commented about their positive experiences owning a kitchen range from the brand. One particular commenter claimed, "Frigidaire gallery and pro ranges are very good units. It's the plain Frigidaire units that will not last". This is supported by official outlets; the aforementioned Consumer Reports ranking highlighted the Frigidaire Gallery GCFE3060BF model, giving it an exceptionally high score.

3. Inadequate dishwasher performance, noisy output, and leaks

It could be argued that dishwashers are one of the household appliances that are most likely to break down due to simple wear and tear or because of user error. But some of the problems with Frigidaire's dishwashers can't be blamed on inconsistently cleaning the filter or overloading the dishwasher. The most common non-human-related issues seem to be water not draining due to a defective drain pump or float switch, among other mechanical issues. Leaks are another common issue, which could happen due to a misaligned door gasket.

There also seems to be a general dissatisfaction with the overall ability for Frigidaire dishwashers to get dishes clean. This could be caused by a bad circulation pump or a defective heating element. Many owners also mentioned their dishwasher being notably loud, which could be caused by a faulty pump and motor assembly. It's important to note that people appear to either be very supportive of Frigidaire dishwashers or extremely opposed to ever owning one again. Since the brand has several inexpensive models — with some priced well under $400 – you could simply make the argument that you get what you pay for. If a cheap Frigidaire dishwasher isn't cutting it, you might just have to spend a bit more on a different brand.

4. Reports of microwaves dying after less than a year of use

There's a seemingly endless amount of customer complaints on Frigidaire microwaves. The chief complaint among reviews left on Consumer Affairs is that the microwave stopped working before a year or just after one year. And that's especially problematic, as they come with a one-year warranty. Other commonly-reported problems include electrical wiring issues or a loss of heating functions. Based on buyer insights, several defective items came from the Frigidaire Professional and Frigidaire Gallery product lines.

Multiple people noted how the costs needed to repair their microwave and replace parts would be just as much as what they paid for the product itself, if not more. If you do decide to buy a microwave from Frigidaire, opt for a product that has a two-year warranty. This way, if it does break within the one-year mark, you're still well within the window to make a claim. For those shopping on a tight budget, aim for the options that have the best reviews. Research the model number for potential defects and compare it to other brands before you fully commit.

5. Poor post-purchase experiences with customer service and repairs

Amidst problems with specific Frigidaire appliance categories, customers tend to face issues receiving timely and helpful repair services when an appliance does malfunction. Feedback across product reviews and online platforms such as Reddit suggest that people had to wait months for scheduled repairs and backordered parts. Some discussed unpleasant interactions with service representatives when trying to schedule repairs or get directions on what to do about an appliance problem. Customers reportedly also experienced pushback after submitting warranty claims.

It's important to note that this includes feedback from those who purchased products directly from Frigidaire, as well as through big-box stores like Lowe's. If you are considering buying an appliance from this brand, take the time to read customer reviews about the specific model. Verify the warranty information, including what Frigidaire will and won't cover, and for how long the warranty lasts. If you're going through a big-box store, make sure you know its return policy (Lowe's only allows a 48-hour window after appliance delivery). Finally, don't forget to register the appliance. This way, if something does go wrong, you can expedite the process for repairs or replacements with the manufacturer.
