Hand towels are a simple way to cut down on paper towel and tissue waste while keeping spaces like your bathroom or kitchen neat. Hanging your bathroom's hand towels on hooks or over rods is a simple and practical choice, but it may not be the cutest, most decorative option. If you're looking to get something a little more interesting-looking without spending much, why not make your own out of a few materials? YouTube creator Home Goodiys showed how to turn an old wooden sign and a set of Dollar Tree tumbling tower blocks into your own hand towel holder. They glued individual tower blocks onto the wooden panel, forming seven rows that each hold a hand towel.

To make this project, you'll need an old wooden sign at least 2 inches wide, but an alternative you can get from Dollar Tree is one Crafter's Square Craft Wood Plank, which measures 2 inches wide and 18 inches long. Additionally, you'll need to get a Tumbling Tower game set from Dollar Tree to make the rows, some Gorilla Wood Glue to put everything together, and some paint in your preferred color along with a paintbrush. You can choose to mount this holder against a wall or let it lean against a corner or countertop, so it's up to you whether you want to have nails, adhesive hooks, or a separate stand or container at the ready.

How to DIY a wooden hand towel holder

If you're repurposing a sign for this DIY, use its blank side so the original design won't interfere with your new project. Take one tumbling tower block and glue it near one end of the plank. Afterwards, measure about 2½ inches from that block. This spacing should leave enough room for a single rolled hand towel to fit between the blocks, but make sure to test before gluing the remaining blocks along the plank.

From here, you can decide how many sections you'd like based on the number of towels you plan to store and the length of your sign. Once you've mapped out your arrangement and finished gluing the first row of blocks down, glue a second and third row of blocks to the first to help make sure the rolled towels stay in place. As you go, make sure to let the wood glue dry for at least an hour, or overnight if you want the adhesive to fully cure. Once dry, paint the entire holder in your preferred color.

You can choose to wrap up your DIY here, but if you want your hand towel holder to have an extra layer of protection against water splashes, apply a clear spray sealant like Thompson's Multi-Surface Waterproofer Stain. Finally, you can opt to mount the holder on the wall with some nails or adhesive hooks, or you can let it stand inside a basket to keep your bathroom essentials organized. Using wood and wicker organizers is a great way to add a rustic aesthetic to your bathroom, but you can also take it up a notch with some vintage-style glass jars or a potted plant or two.
