This Is What Happens When You Put Coke In Your Toilet

Although it's necessary to keep your toilet bowl clean, it probably isn't up there on your favorite-things-to-do list. We don't think it's necessary to tell you that a toilet is a pretty germy area of the bathroom, although not the germiest — that award goes to a toothbrush holder, per a 2011 NSF International Household Germ Study. But keeping the loo in pristine and clean condition is essential, not just because you want to impress guests with a beautiful and spotless bathroom when they visit your home, but you want to keep germs at bay for health reasons, too! Plus, according to Molly Maids, a thorough cleaning can also lessen the buildup of minerals.

We here at House Digest love a good cleaning hack. Let us tell you, we've used shortcuts on just about every task, from unclogging drains with hair and debris to an easy way to clean our bathtub. Can we get a collective thank you to those friendly people that share these tips on TikTok?

Lucky for you, we have another toilet hack to make your life a whole lot easier when it comes to your toilet bowl. Read on to see what really happens when you put Coke in your toilet.

Yes, really: Pick up some extra Coke for a spotless toilet

You've heard right; whether you're picking up a few extra bottles of Coke from the store or heading to McDonald's for your daily soda run, we have some pretty exciting news to share. According to Today, you can use Coca-Cola to clean your toilet bowl! What makes it work, though? Per the outlet, it's all about the fizz. To be honest, that's what we thought, and to be frank, this hack couldn't be more straightforward. Today suggests pouring the Coke into the toilet bowl, giving it ample time to sit. For best results, they suggest sleeping on it and when you wake in the morning, give the loo a flush, and voila, you have yourself a spotless and stain-free toilet bowl. Could it get any easier? We don't think so!

An editor from Insider also put the Coke challenge to the test, although she warmed her soda up in the microwave twice for 30 seconds each time. She agreed that it is best to let the Coke sit through the night and advised a bare minimum of one hour, which may come in handy if you find out guests are coming over at the last minute. The outlet also suggests using a brush to really scrub the toilet bowl and get any excess grime out.

If you're a gardener, then you're in luck because Coke can clean your rusted tools, too! It sounds like a staple we should always have on hand!
