- Alison's 2018 article on U.S. furniture manufacturing, "Made in a Post-Globalized America," was a 2018 Folio: Eddie and Ozzie Award finalist for best B2B article series.
- The toughest story she worked on covering interior design was a story for Home Accents Today on Internet Minimum Advertised Price policy breakers. In a normally harmonious industry, tensions between lighting retailers and manufacturers ran high.
- At home, Alison put her interior design chops to the test, blending her Chicago condo's Art Deco roots with her love of mid-century modern and infusing it with a touch of boho.
Experience
After earning her bachelor's degree, Alison scored her first paid writing job as a copywriter for a self-publishing company, crafting press releases and ad copy for interesting and occasionally offbeat books. In 2015, Alison headed to Northwestern University for her master's and got a taste of real reporting, covering the 2016 Iowa caucuses for Medill Reports Chicago. She landed her first journalism job as managing editor at the trade magazine Furniture, Lighting & Decor in 2016. During that time, she covered the retail and design industry's struggle with technology, the short-lived Badgley Mischka furniture line, and lighting collections from notable designers. She then moved on to the Chicago Sun-Times in 2019, where she started as a breaking news reporter before moving to the audience desk. In 2022, she became the audience engagement editor for Modern Healthcare. She's excited to return to writing, covering furniture, lighting, interior design, and more for House Digest.
