Is Hiring A Home Organizer Really Worth It?

Sometimes, no matter how hard you try to keep things organized, your home can get a bit cluttered. It happens to the best of us (if you have children, you know this situation all too well). When the mess gets out of hand, you might be tempted to call a professional organizer to come to your rescue and straighten things out. Essentially, The New York Times explains that their services include helping you decide which items to keep and what to toss or donate. Together, you examine everything you own with the intention of getting rid of things you could do without.

Their services are meant to assist people who are lost and don't know where to begin, but what if you can organize your home without their help? Do they bring something to the table you can't find anywhere else? In reality, is hiring a home organizer really worth it? Keep reading to find out.

Save your money

If you really need help organizing your items, call a family member or friend to assist you. It's free (unless you throw them some money or treat them to a nice dinner), and you won't feel judged by what you do and don't decide to keep. On average, professional home organizers charge about $55 an hour, but they may ask for much more depending on their skill level and years in the business, Forbes states. They can also charge per project, which will run you a minimum of $125.

Most importantly, it's not a professional organizer's job to clean your home, so you'll be spending even more money to have a cleaning service finish the job, A Personal Organizer says. This means you spent hundreds of dollars sorting your personal items into boxes, but you'll still be stuck with a sticky floor and a pile of dirty dishes, which are probably more pressing issues.

Some professional home organizers will also assist you with planning the layout of your space or may offer décor ideas, but these services come at an additional cost. Therefore, we recommend hiring a professional only if you are physically unable to do the work yourself or if you've exhausted all other options and can't find someone to assist you.
