House Digest Survey: Which Fireplace Trend Do You Find Most Appealing?

Your fireplace should never be a second thought. Yes, we must ensure our paint colors and furniture all complement each other, but your whole design process can crumble if your fireplace is lacking in interest. Whenever a fireplace is present, it instantly becomes the focal point of a room, per Real Flame. So, figuring out its creative features is crucial to avoid a bland and boring outcome. As you begin the design process of any space, it's advised to start with your fireplace earlier rather than later. Doing this will make designing any area easier, as you'll have a base to guide the rest of your styling decisions.

There are many ways to design a fireplace, so House Digest conducted a survey asking participants which fireplace trend they find most appealing. We provided them with six options: marble, minimalist, two-sided, bedroom fireplace, fireplace feature wall, and electric fireplace. We'll show you which options received the most votes and how you can incorporate them into your own home.

Accentuate the beauty of your fireplace

Out of 612 respondents, 20.59% (126 people) chose the fireplace feature wall trend as the most appealing, according to our survey. This comes as no surprise because creating a fireplace feature wall can go with any design aesthetic, such as modern, traditional, or rustic. Organized Interiors says this trend can enhance the current design of your space by introducing a new and stylish characteristic. A fireplace feature wall can either be a giant show-stopper or a way to elevate a small area of your home.

The creativity behind this trend also makes it fun for the homeowner, as you can work with a variety of materials to create the exact vision you're going for. Not only can you use smooth porcelain, but you can also introduce texture by choosing a distressed stone or whatever else you'd enjoy. Don't just stop in the living room, as this trend can work in almost any area of your residence, such as the office, basement, or bedroom.

Keeping it simple

Although many respondents seemed to enjoy a more extravagant fireplace trend, 19.12% (117 people) preferred a more minimalistic approach. This trend has been a popular choice for homeowners in the past couple of years, as it emits a luxurious vibe, per Lyric. This is because designing a minimalist fireplace is all about keeping it simple. My Paradissi says you should keep what's necessary and get rid of anything that may be considered inessential. All you really need is a place to store wood logs, whether they're stacked next to or under the fireplace, a fireplace door (it's more minimalist not to have one), a baseboard, and a bench for sitting.

Most of these fireplaces have a black frame and are inserted into a white, blank wall. The wood logs usually introduce warmth to the space, and if you decide to use a bench made of stone, this will add texture and slight color variation for interest.

The following are the other fireplace trends listed from most to least votes: Marble with 116 votes (18.95%), two-sided with 93 votes (15.20%), electric fireplace with 83 votes (13.56%), and bedroom fireplace with 77 votes (12.58%).
