35% Of People Prefer This Method For Cleaning Hardwood Floors- Exclusive Survey

If you have a home with hardwood floors, you know how important it is to keep them clean and well-maintained. New Silver says that everyone wants hard floors, but if they become dirty or damaged it can seriously affect the value of your home. So, how do you keep your hardwood floors looking their best? Merry Maids states that cleaning your floors a couple of times a week can help keep on top of all the dust and grime that gets brought into our houses on our feet.

With so many different methods available for cleaning hardwood floors, it can be overwhelming to choose the best one. In this article, we'll explore the various options for cleaning them and looking their best. Using quality tools and following the right cleaning method can keep your hardwood floors looking beautiful and well-maintained for years to come. At House Digest, we conducted an exclusive survey. We asked 629 people: What is your go-to method for cleaning your hardwood floors? The options were Swiffer, mop, broom, vacuum, steam mop, and dry mop. Keep reading to see how your go-to method ranked.

Swiffers take top spot

According to the survey, 211 people, or 35% of respondents believe that using a Swiffer is the best way to clean hardwood floors. Do It Best says Swiffers can be effective for cleaning hardwood floors, but it's important to use the right type of Swiffer for your particular floor finish. If your hardwood floor has a polyurethane finish, you can use a Swiffer WetJet, which is designed for use on sealed wood floors. However, if your floor features oil, wax, or no finish at all, Swiffer recommends avoiding their WetJet products.

The next popular method for cleaning hardwood floors is vacuuming. A little over 21% of people chose this option as this is a quick and easy way to remove dirt, dust, and debris from your floors, and it can be done regularly to help prevent build-up. However, it's important to purchase a vacuum specifically designed for hardwood floors, as some machines can scratch or damage the surface. Additionally, vacuuming alone may not be enough to thoroughly clean your hardwood floors, especially if they are particularly dirty or stained.

The best of the rest

The third most popular choice was using a traditional mop. Over 16% of the people asked opted for this method. Mopping can be done using a traditional mop or a steam mop. Steam mops tied with using a broom, both with 10.5% of the votes with 66 people opting for these. However, keep in mind that choosing the steam version can potentially damage the wood. Steam mops work by using heat and moisture to loosen and dissolve dirt and grime, and this moisture can potentially penetrate the wood and cause warping or other damage if the floor is not sealed. Some wood floors however are sealed, and steam mops can be a great way to clean this type of flooring.

The least favorite method was using a dry mop, which only 6% of respondents chose. It's not surprising as dry mopping alone is not the most effective way to clean hardwood floors. While they may remove some surface dirt and dust, they are not designed to pick up or remove stuck-on debris or spills. Dry mops also do not have any cleaning solution to help lift and dissolve dirt and grime, so they may not leave the floor as clean as other cleaning methods. It is best to use dry mopping in conjunction with wet mopping as Alsco Uniforms explains. Removing surface dust and grime with dry mopping, ahead of wet mopping ensures a cleaner floor.
