How HGTV's Renovated Brady Bunch House Became One Of The Hottest Homes On The Hollywood Market

Can you put a price on nostalgia? Apparently, the answer is yes — around $5.5 million to be exact. The real-life Brady Bunch house has officially hit the market, and it's everything fans could hope for, both as a home and as a piece of television history. The recent listing marks the first time the California home has been listed for sale since HGTV purchased it back in 2018 for $3.5 million. The subsequent $2 million renovation was well documented in the network special, "A Very Brady Renovation". Property brothers Drew and Jonathan Scott, as well as other fan favorites, worked together to transform the timeworn 1959 home into a time capsule straight out of the '70s.

With all the work HGTV's heavy hitters put into the house to make it look like the Brady Bunch did in the show, it may be surprising to know that the home's interior was never actually used on camera. While all of the exterior shots of the Brady's home featured in the show are of a real house, all of the scenes that took place inside the home were actually shot on a television set in nearby Burbank. This doesn't make the home any less nostalgic for fans — or any less valuable and sought after by collectors or historians. In fact, even though the series hasn't aired new episodes since the early '70s, the house is reportedly still the second most photographed home in the U.S. just behind the White House.

Inside HGTV's multi-million dollar renovation project

After initially acquiring the home in 2018, stars from HGTV worked to convert the 5,100-square-foot house into a living replica of the set. One of the largest tasks was converting the split-level home into a full two-story, as the Brady house is depicted as having two floors on the show. In addition to adding a full second story, the team put a lot of work into renovating the kitchen, making it look exactly as it did when Alice was cooking dinner for the Brady family. Danny Brown, the agent responsible for the listing, says the star-studded renovation team "rebuilt the kitchen based on exactly what they saw on the set and the frames from the TV," (per ET). "They matched every color, every cabinet... everything they could to look perfect."

While the home's kitchen is one of the main focal points, Brown notes that potential buyers will also be captivated by the likeness of the staircase. "I think most people are just blown away when they walk in and see the iconic staircase," he says (via ET). "Everyone remembers this is where they took all their family pictures." The home's exterior, which featured throughout the show's five-season run, is enough in itself to attract buyers, though the sale also comes with all the furnishings and decor inside – green floral couch, horse statue, and all – which is great for fans and historians alike.

The future of the Brady Bunch House

While the average Brady Bunch fan likely can't afford the home's real estate rate price tag, it's worth noting that the five-bedroom, five-bathroom will likely easily sell for the asking price — after all, nostalgia is a powerful thing. In fact, Brown says there has already been a ton of interest from potential buyers. "We've had a ton of high-profile people, people you probably know but we can't discuss 'cause of NDAs," he says (via ET). "A lot of real estate investors. A lot of collectors, and it's really all types. We've been showing it non-stop since it's come on the market. It's been chaotic."

While he's happy to make a sale, he's ultimately hoping the home will go to someone who will appreciate its value as a piece of history and its importance for so many people. "We want someone who's gonna be a steward for the property for the next hundred years and really, really pay homage to the legacy and the spirit of the show," he says. "So that will probably be an investor or collector, some combination of the both."
