Are you in need of more closet space? Smaller closets reduce the number of items you can store inside, forcing you to clean them out multiple times a year to ensure everything fits. If you have a larger closet, you have more space to store items, but things can quickly get chaotic if they're not adequately organized. Instead of stressing over insufficient space, you can easily DIY an additional storage rack with a few items from Dollar Tree. TikTok creator @chairbear25 came up with this brilliant DIY, where she reorganized her kid's closet with a few buckets, S-hooks, and broom handles to hold all their toys. The hooks hung from a wire rack already installed in the closet, allowing her to effortlessly hang the buckets and broom on the hooks and fill them with Legos.

You can tailor this DIY to meet your closet's needs. Use the buckets to organize extra clothes, towels, or food that don't fit on shelves. This budget-friendly hack will cost you less than $7, possibly cheaper if you already have a few items at home. You'll need two to three buckets with handles, a pack of S-hooks, and one broom handle from Dollar Tree. A pre-installed rack is required, however, an adjustable curtain rod is perfect for holding the essentials if your closet doesn't have a place to support the hooks. Target sells one for $3.50. You'll have extra closet storage in minutes without any tools needed.

DIYing a closet storage rack

Once you have gathered your materials, hang an S-hook on each side of a bar. Then, insert the broom's handle through the hook and slide each bucket over the handle. After your buckets are in place, lay the handle's end on the other hook. You should have a few buckets floating above the ground. If you don't have a pre-installed bar, attach your curtain rod between two walls in your closet, then follow the rest of the steps.

After you're satisfied with your new storage setup, fill your buckets. If you added storage to your clothes closet, categorize your clothing, shoes, and accessories. The best way to organize your closet is by hanging your longer and shorter clothes on stacked bars. If you don't have the space, you can hang your coats, blouses, collared shirts, slacks, and pants on the same rack. Then, store folded t-shirts, jeans, and lightweight sweaters in the buckets. Keeping your clothes neat and folded allows you to look through them easier than if they were bundled up.

On the other hand, if you have enough space to store your clothes, you can use the buckets for your shoes and accessories like scarves, beanies, hats, and gloves. This DIY is easy and incredibly adaptable, so you can recreate it in any closet around your house. Add extra storage to your pantry, linen closet, and kid's closet for a more organized space.
