How To Take Your IKEA RITVA Curtains From Cream To A Stunning Bright White

IKEA's RITVA curtains are ultra-popular for their price point and overall quality. But, for some people's tastes and interior design needs, the hue is just not quite right. Billed as a "top seller" on IKEA's site, the RITVA curtains come in both (a very dark) gray and a white hue that trends towards the creamier side of the color spectrum. They're also 100% cotton, which is pretty much what makes a popular DIY IKEA hack possible in the first place!

It seems that although the light-filtering RITVA curtains are beloved, the white color is not quite bright enough for some people's living area color palettes. To that end, they turn to a little outside intervention to bring them in line with the desired overall look. No matter which of the hacks you choose, it's not going to cost a bundle, either, as these DIYs typically involve very affordable and readily available products like bleach or OxiClean. Best of all, it's pretty easy to do and oh-so-fulfilling to know that you've achieved the look you want without spending a bunch of extra money on higher-end curtains.

Here's how to turn IKEA RITVA curtains bright white

Most people have either bleach or OxiClean on hand. If not, get thee to the store and pick up one or the other to turn your IKEA RITVA curtains a stunning bright white. Here are a couple of handy methods brought forth by the good people at TikTok.

The bleach method demonstrated by TikToker evorehome requires only a bucket, water, bleach, and a sink. First, fill up the sink with cold water and place the curtains in. The influencer says this will help the next step (the bleach) to more evenly affect the curtains. Then, fill a plastic bucket half full with water, and add one or two cups of bleach. Remove the curtains from the sink and place them in the bleach/water bucket and allow them to soak for at least two hours. Carefully remove the curtains (wear gloves to protect skin from the bleach) and follow up with a rinse in the washing machine. Iron as needed.

An alternative method is to place the curtains in your clean washing machine, then add three scoops of OxiClean, per TikToker stephanystyled. Machine dry according to the label instructions, iron as needed, and enjoy some beautifully bright white new curtains!
