How To Give A Dollar Tree Vase A Gorgeous Floral Upgrade With Rose Molding
A beautiful floral vase can be the perfect way to upgrade any room with decor, and this DIY can help with that. You can turn a plain glass vase into a work of art using a baking mold. It's a great way to craft a luxe vase for unique home decor on a budget. There are two parts to this project. First, the inside of the vase is decorated with paint and confetti; then, the outside is ornamented with 3D roses.
For the first part of this DIY, make a quick trip to Dollar Tree to pick up their Glass Hurricane Flower Vase. You'll also need white spray paint, Mod Podge, confetti, gold washi tape, and painter's tape. To begin, evenly place strips of painter's tape lengthwise inside of the vase. You want the tape to go about halfway down the vase and be a few inches apart. Don't worry if your tape isn't quite even – we'll fix that later. Then, spray paint the vase's interior. When the paint is completely dry, remove the tape.
Next, coat the unpainted area on the inside of the vase with Mod Podge and sprinkle the confetti on top. You can use whatever confetti color you want or even mix and match shades. The design might look odd at first, but once the Mod Podge dries completely, it will turn clear and the confetti will shine. Finally, use a thin strip of the washi tape on the outside of the vase to line the edges of the white paint.
Add 3D flowers to your vase
The second half of this project helps bring the entire design together, but it does require a little patience. You will need a hot glue gun, gold spray paint, and a floral cake mold, like the BAKER DEPOT Silicone Mold. However, there are many different mold designs, so there's no need to stick with just roses. Fill the mold about a quarter of the way with hot glue. The more you fill them, the chunkier the flowers will be. Once hardened, remove the pieces from the mold. Repeat this process until you have 36 flowers. If you plan on making multiple of these vases or using this mold for more hot glue designs, it might be worth investing in a glue melter, like the Surebonder Electric Hot Glue Skillet. This will allow you to quickly heat up the hot glue without waiting on your small glue gun.
Next, spray paint all of the flowers gold and let them dry completely. Then, hot glue the roses to the bottom half of the vase. Use scissors when necessary to cut the roses to fit any gaps. You can also use the flowers to cover any inconsistencies in your painted lines. Now your project is complete and you can style the vase in your home for a high-end touch.
This gorgeous floral design gives the dollar-store vase a perfect makeover. To customize the decor, you could use different colors, completely cover the vase with roses, or forgo the painted stripes and confetti. And if you love this look, consider another Dollar Tree DIY for a luxe-looking, decorative vase to match.
