Get The Most Out Of Your Costco Membership With These Home Improvement Services

We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Wholesale superstore chain Costco is loved by members for good deals on buying in bulk, online programs like Costco Direct, and low-priced hot dogs. However, what even the most dedicated of shoppers might not know is that Costco sells much more than just household essentials. If you plan on remodeling your home anytime soon, the chain also offers exclusive deals to members through its ReMEMBER services program. While not offered through Costco itself, the brand partners with providers in the home improvement space to secure deals for those who might like to replace their HVAC systems, upgrade their windows, or even install flooring in their entire home. In some cases, the program can connect you with raw materials if you plan on doing the work yourself, as well as professionals to complete the task for you.

When purchased through the Costco website, customers will also receive a Costco shop card worth 10% of their pre-tax total. This is essentially Costco's version of a gift card and the loaded funds do not expire. Prices for services vary based on the item you select, so to evaluate the potential savings, you must receive your free consultation and compare it against other local options. However, if you already trust the Costco brand, ReMEMBER services can be a place to consider when starting your home renovation journey. To participate, you'll need a valid Costco card of any membership level.

You can nab free in-home HVAC consultations

Costco partners with Lennox to meet customers' HVAC needs. Lennox is one of the country's leading HVAC brands, and its systems have a reputation of being high-powered yet energy-efficient. If you get a Lennox system installed through the Costco/Lennox affiliation you can receive a 10%-15% shop card, which is based on the pre-tax price. Certain aspects of the total installation cost might not be included in this, for instance, repairs made to existing ductwork or any non-Lennox components required for your specific installation.

If you choose to purchase a Lennox home comfort system through Costco, the first step is to book a consultation (either in-store or through the Costco website). After this, a local Lennox dealer representative will come out to do an assessment and provide a quote. Lennox dealers are NATE certified and factory trained, and going this route may reduce potential dangers of your warranty getting voided thanks to an improper installation – which can be a very real risk when working with unauthorized installers. Like with any major home upgrade, it's a good idea to get additional quotes if there are other authorized installers in your area. Lennox has an authorized dealer list on its website. Some homeowners on Costco Reddit groups report that the quotes they received for getting a Lennox HVAC system installed through the Costco affiliation were significantly higher, while others found the cost comparable or lower than independent quotes. These differences vary based on location and local installers, so do your diligence, check online reviews for the individual installers (including the one affiliated with Costco) and also remember that cheaper isn't always better when it comes to quotes.

Soften your water with a fresh new system

Costco customers can get hooked up with a whole-home water filtration installation from EcoWater systems. The company sells three main products: water refiners, water softeners, and anti-scale products, and drinking water filtration systems. While you do receive a 10% Costco shop card for getting an EcoWater system installed, an important bit of fine print is that this only applies to these specific products and the installation costs associated with them. If you buy other things to spice up your kitchen or bathroom — like a faucet or a new sink — those purchases don't count toward the card.

Another thing to be aware of is that EcoWater's systems are proprietary. This means that replacement filters and parts can be expensive. The systems themselves are also not cheap (and can range well over $10,000), but again, you can expect to pay a premium for most whole-home water filtration systems — especially if you're dealing with potentially contaminated water and need a reverse osmosis system for a household of more than two. If you're wondering by this point, are Costco's EcoWater treatment systems worth the money — the answer depends. For households that want a set-and-forget system, with an app that reminds them of things like filter changes, and the option to have technicians come out to replace them, EcoWater could be the answer to your water purity woes, and going through Costco could net you that 10% shopping card. But if you're loathe to part with few thousand bucks, there are cheaper options (especially if you don't need to soften water, just filter it, and don't mind changing filters yourself), such as the SpringWell Whole House Water Filter Cartridge System or the Aquasana Whole House Water Filter System. If you want to learn more, read our guide on how much a home water filtration system could cost

Try out new window treatments

Window treatments from Graber are also a part of the Costco ReMEMBER services program. You can nab blinds, drapes, shades, and shutters in a pretty big range of styles. If you book a free consultation from Graber through Costco, one of their window treatment specialists will give you professional assistance in swapping out the once-popular window treatments that are now dating your home for more current and potentially practical options. Besides providing advice, they'll also present a range of samples and swatches. Once you've finalized any choices, the consultant will take professional measurements and furnish you with a quote. If you prefer to play around with things yourself, Graber offers a digital service that allows you to upload photos of your space and try out different options before committing. This program qualifies for the Costco shop card, and certain locations may run additional promotions, like adding in a free cordless lift shade.

Getting custom blinds installed is almost never a cheap undertaking, and Graber blinds are considered to be a quality option, although seemingly not quite on par with Hunter Douglas (which Costco used to offer). Costco members report that quotes for custom installations from Graber can range up to a few hundred dollars per shade. Like with the Lennox affiliation, it may pay to get quotes from other Graber installers in your area. Depending on your area and the individual installers, the quote through Costco could end up being less — or significantly more (even with the Costco shopping card factored in), so be sure to shop around.

Check out custom-made, sustainable countertops

Whether you are redoing your bathroom or kitchen, you can choose custom-made countertops through Costco's partnership with Cosentino. The family-owned brand has its headquarters in Spain, but does business all around the world. There are multiple lines within the brand to choose from, such as Silestone with its 25-year warranty, Sensa with a 15-year warranty, or even Dekton, which features a totally carbon-neutral material, and all of the Consentino countertops are produced with 100% renewable energy and 99% reused water. Besides the 10% Costco shop card, there are other perks to allowing Costco to hook you up with countertops. According to the retailer, this is a true white glove service. After booking a consult and speaking with a local Consentino dealer, a design specialist will do an at-home visit to flesh out what you want. Cosentino's national account director, Kelly Martin, said (via Costco), that this allows customers to work through all of the big decisions in a single appointment, and that it means "you basically have a designer on your team."

Sales talk aside, choosing the best countertop material can be tricky, but buying through Costco could suit you if you have two main priorities: durability and sustainability. While most of these options appear to be engineered stone (and you won't be able to access slabs of marble or soapstone), choosing this avenue does take away some of the guesswork. Instead of poring over materials, you just need to pick the performance level and color you like best. If you want to delve deeper, here's everything we know about Costco countertops

Refloor your entire home with materials of your choice

When it comes to flooring materials, Costco customers can access deals from Shaw Floors. You can choose carpet, engineered hardwood, LVP, tile, stone, and even mineral core. When buying through the Costco website, you can also upload photos of your space with measurements to get a better idea of what your floor might look like with each choice installed. If you prefer, a Shaw dealer can come to your home to provide a no-cost consultation before you commit, bringing along samples and doing all the measurements. To access your 10% Costco shop card, you must also purchase an installation package.

As with many of the other home improvement services in the ReMEMBER program, the installation won't be done directly by Shaw Floors or Costco, but by an independent local contractor Costco has partnered with. Before you sign on any dotted lines, it's a good idea to look into the affiliated installer's track record by reading any available reviews online. Just because they're affiliated does not guarantee high levels of professionalism, and installation mistakes, like not acclimating hardwood planks or applying over a damp subfloor, can void flooring warranties and be a hassle to get sorted out.

Transform your shower or bathtub

The bath remodeling program works a little differently from other ReMEMBER services. Instead of a national provider, you enter your zip code on the Costco website and a list of local partners will pop up. From there, you can sign up for a tub-to-shower conversion, or simply get a new shower or bathtub of your choice installed. An example zip code search shows that some local providers even haul away old bathtubs free of charge. This service also comes with 10% back via a Costco shop card.

At the time of writing, this service is not available in all areas, so you may enter your zip code and not have anything show up. Alternatively, you might only have one installer to choose from. You may also find that some installers only offer a certain type of shower or tub. For instance Kolher (one of the options available through the ReMEMBER program) seems to only install LuxStone walk-in showers. Another option, Jacuzzi Bath Remodel, can swap outdated tubs and showers out in as little as a day, but only offers replacements from the Jacuzzi brand, so you'll be limited to their range of products.

Get ready for the next big storm with a generator

Whether you live on the Gulf Coast and are waiting for the next big hurricane, or reside in New England and deal with harsh winter weather, having a generator on hand that will power your whole home is a great way to stay safe if the power supply fails. While portable options that you need to turn on manually are more affordable, the Generac Home Standby Generators offered through Costco are permanent and installed outside, typically near the HVAC system. They also kick on automatically, so even if you are away from home, you don't need to worry about power outages. If you purchase a Generac Home Standby Generator from Costco, you can get a five-year limited warranty on this American-made brand, plus a 10% back offer through a Costco shop card, pre-tax.

That said, this is another Costco home improvement service where it might pay to shop around. While Generac's Home Standby Generator might be a good option for a lot of homes, standby generators aren't a one-size-fits-all solution. By opting for an installation via Costco, you will be limited to the Generac models, which may or may not be the best option for your specific power needs. So once again, before you flick the switch, research your options, get additional quotes, and compare the line items to make sure you're paying a fair market rate for installation. On big-ticket items, higher-than-average installation costs could translate into a few thousand dollars extra, and outweigh the savings you would net with the shopper card.

Select locations qualify for savings on new windows and doors

Swapping out your windows and glass doors is a service that isn't available at all Costco locations as of now, but new stores are constantly being added. So, if your area isn't serviced just quite yet, it doesn't hurt to put in an inquiry to see if it's a location that will be on the list soon. Costco partners with Infinity from Marvin for this service. They offer 10% cashback through a store shop card, so keep that in mind when comparing your Costco quote from other local contractors. This service also comes with a lifetime limited warranty.

According to the Costco website, the entire process will be handled by authorized Infinity consultants, including the initial consultation, measurements, and installation. As Infinity's limited lifetime warranty does not include issues arising from improper installation, who puts these windows in is an important consideration. You can also browse the Infinity website to find verified dealers in your area or get more information on their warranty.

Freshen up your cabinets with refacing

If you are remodeling your kitchen or bathroom, or even just looking for ways to spruce up your mudroom, Costco partners with Reborn Cabinets Inc. to provide members with great deals. Members get the following perks: exclusive ProGuard+ finish to protect the cabinets against damage, a free crown molding upgrade to make the tops look chicer, a member-only list of door designs and hardware exclusives, plus up to 10 soft-close drawers for free.

There are many stunning kitchen cabinet colors to choose from, and you also get to personalize every other aspect of your new cabinets. You'll select the wood (from alder, beech, cherry, maple, and oak), as well as the finish, the door style (shaker, minimalist, etc.), plus the hardware, too. There are hundreds of different possibilities, so be sure to do some social media browsing beforehand and create a mood board with your favorite options to have a more successful consultation.

If all this is making you wonder is Costco's cabinet refacing service is too good to be true, here are some potential cons to keep in mind. First, this service, as the name suggests, is just a facelift for the exterior, so it's best suited to cabinets that are still in good shape, with a layout that doesn't need changing. Second, word on the street is that it's a relatively pricey route. A Better Business Bureau review stated that the quote from Reborn Cabinets was 30%-40% higher than competitors', and homeowners on Reddit consistently say that the Reborn's refacing quotes range over $20,000. However, refacing through Costco and Reborn Cabinets could still be cheaper and a lot less disruptive than having your existing cabinets ripped out and replaced.

Organize your closet with a customized system

If you've already organized with the Marie Kondo method and are now ready to completely overhaul your closet, as a Costco member, you can take advantage of 10% back on a shop card by working with Closet Factory. After a free design consultation (either in-home or online), you can purchase an organizational system customized to your space in one of three styles: minimalist, contemporary, or traditional. During the consultation, a designer will assist you in choosing a layout that meets your specific organizational needs (if you've ever tried to DIY a custom closet, you'll know this is quite a perk), and provide you with samples.

You don't need a massive walk-in closet for this service to be worth it. Even smaller spaces can benefit from everything having a specific place, as organization reduces clutter by its very nature and makes everything more functional. This service is not only for bedroom closets, either. You can reorganize your linen closet, the coat closet, or use the system to make the storage in your garage or laundry room that much more manageable. Some clients even use this solution to maximize space in their home office or family room via an entertainment center. Essentially, if there are shelves and drawers, the Closet Factory should be able to work a little bit of magic. However, custom closet systems can be quite a big outlay, so once again, it may pay to evaluate other brands (like Closets by Design and Closet World) and get additional quotes. Also be wary of signing anything until you get a proper quote, not a ballpark range.

Choose and install a new garage door

Amarr is Costco's preferred partner for garage doors. Costco members enjoy free virtual or in-home consultations, plus American-made products that are up to 38% quieter than other brands. Plus, when purchased through the website, all members also receive a free outside keypad for their garage, plus two free remotes as well. If you are a Costco member at the Executive Level, you also receive an extra 2% back on top of the 10% shop card rebate.

By booking a consultation you can have an Amarr dealer come out to your home and help you select a door. You can also use the online visualizer tool and upload a photo of your garage exterior to see how different door styles will look. Besides this, buyers have the opportunity to match the door to exterior trim by selecting from a range of over 800 paint colors, and choosing between various window placements and glass types (such as frosted, clear, tinted, etc.).

Like with the other upgrades in the ReMEMBER program that involve a third-party installer, your experience will also be determined by the specific local contractor Costco has partnered with. Some might prioritize customers that come to them through Costco, while others might take the affiliation as an opportunity to charge more, so gather quotes, check reviews, and carry out all the due diligence that any larger home upgrade merits.
