The Colander Trick That Will Give You The Most Stunning Faux Bouquets

Faux flowers allow you to decorate with nature in your home without the maintenance required to keep real flowers healthy. So it's worth figuring out creative ways to display these no-fuss floral arrangements. Thankfully, there's a colander trick that gives you the most stunning imitation flower bouquets. All you have to do is attach two colanders at the rims with zip ties to form a globe shape, then insert faux flowers stems into the holes in a decorative way.

Attach yarn or rope to the colanders to hang the display from a ceiling in your home. When you're done, you'll have a gorgeous display that's sure to bring the feel of a lively flower garden indoors. You can make the floral arrangement as subtle or as whimsical as you like. Plastic butterflies or hanging faux greenery can take the display to the next level. It's helpful to use any plants or floral wall art you already have on display, like this DIY Dollar Tree faux flower decor, to guide and coordinate your design.

Select your favorite faux flowers and hang your DIY bouquet

Just as with this faux flower DIY Garden, you can get most of the supplies you'll need from Dollar Tree for only $1.25 each. This includes the McCormick colanders, the Crafter's Square natural jute cord, and the Tool Bench nylon cable ties. Opting for jute cord instead of yarn provides a more organic look that can better complement the flowers. You can snag faux flowers and greenery from Dollar Tree too.

Once you have your supplies, spray paint the colanders white (or whatever color you like). Thread the jute cord through one colander so you can use it to hang your bouquet display when done. String cable ties through the holes of that same colander, place your second one on top, and secure the ties, attaching the colanders to one another.

Next, slide your flowers into the holes and incorporate any add-ins you want. This could include birds, butterflies, or other wildlife figurines. If you prefer fresh flowers in your home, you really can use a single kitchen colander to create a planter instead. Simply line the inside of the colander with landscape fabric, fill it with soil, and add your flowers. Water the flowers outside or over a sink as needed to avoid excess drainage spilling onto a table or floor. As your final step, you could hang the display from your ceiling on a hook indoors or outdoors under a covered section of your porch, or use an over-the-door hook to hang it as a festive front door decoration. You could even change out the flowers to create seasonal themes.
