The Clever IKEA Ironing Board Hack That's A Game-Changer For Small Laundry Rooms

If you've got a small laundry room, finding space for everything can be a problem, especially if you do a lot of ironing. Large ironing boards are space hogs in small areas, taking up room on the floor and making the whole place feel cramped. Their bulky frames are often difficult to store discreetly, especially in rooms without adequate closets or wall space. This can be frustrating and lead to a less functional laundry room. Just as there is an easy and flexible DIY storage solution for a small laundry room, there, too, is a way to fix your ironing board problem. And like many small-space fixes, this nifty laundry room hack comes from Ikea.

Using an Ikea RASKOG utility cart and an Ikea JÄLL tabletop ironing board, you can create a rolling ironing station that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Most importantly, this mini ironing station is compact, clearing up space in your laundry room, so you can better access everything you need — plus, you'll get extra storage at the same time.

In addition to the utility cart and small ironing board, you will need a couple of two-by-four planks and an electric screwdriver. This hack is straightforward, and it can be modified for even more functionality. It's not only great for small laundry rooms, but it can also help you keep your sewing room organized, as well.

How to make a small rolling ironing cart using an IKEA hack

The first thing you need to do for this hack is to assemble your Ikea RASKOG rolling utility cart according to the product's instructions. Since many Ikea products are easy to assemble, this should be a fairly simple step. Next, you need to measure and cut your two-by-four board into two 17 ¾ inch sections. Wedge the sections width-wise and evenly spaced into the top basket of the utility cart and secure them through the bottom with screws. Then, remove the cloth ironing board cover and place the Ikea JÄLL ironing board, with its legs folded in, onto the cart. Use your screwdriver to fasten a couple of screws in through into each piece of wood through the ironing board, as well. Finally, place the cloth cover back on, and you're done.

Your new rolling ironing board station can be moved out of the way when it's not in use. It's also great for storage, as well. You can keep dryer sheets, detergent pods, and fabric softener in the cart's baskets. If you want to modify this hack to include a storage spot for your iron, you could secure hinges to the ironing board and space the two-by-fours so that a small iron can fit between them. Just make sure your iron has cooled before storage and avoid keeping anything else in the compartment while you are ironing, as steam can damage things.
