The Easy DIY That Makes Plastic Plant Hangers Look Expensive
With spring in the air and summer on the way, it's likely that you have passed some hanging plant arrangements at least a few times at your local nursery. While these plants can be gorgeous, the containers that you purchase them in are often plastic eyesores in your home. So what do you do? Remove the hanger and let the plant sit on the ground? Purchase a new pot? Avoid these plants altogether? Or, consider this easy DIY that makes plastic plant hangers look expensive. You can upgrade a plastic plant hanger into a beautiful décor piece by covering it in macrame cord.
Start this project off by purchasing some 3-millimeter macrame cord. This cord can often be found at your local craft store or online. It comes in a variety of different colors, so think about what will look best in your home and match the pot you currently own. Just remember when creating this project that it should be kept indoors as macrame is not waterproof and getting it wet can lead to mold. You will also need a hot glue gun for this project. If you don't already have one, it is probably worth the investment, especially if you are an avid crafter. Besides, once you have one, you will be able to try these unexpected yet genius hot glue hacks you should be using around your house. And, in case it wasn't obvious, you will also need a hanging planter. You can purchase one or create your own using a leftover plastic hanging basket from a previous year. Transform plastic plant hangers with macrame cord
Turning your planter into something beautiful is fairly simple once you have the supplies you need. Start by taking one end of your macrame cord and gluing it to the edge of the hook that turns inwards. Neatly wrap the cord around the plastic hook until it is completely hidden, and then glue at the base to secure.
Cut a piece of cord that is nine times the length of one plastic rod. Fold the cord in half so that each side is even, and slide the cord underneath the plastic. Then, pull the two ends of the cord over the plastic and through the loop you created. This creates your initial knot. To create the pattern, use the left string to make an L shape that goes over the plastic cord. Next, place the right string vertically over the left string to create a number 4. Pull the right string under the plastic and through the hole of the 4. Finally, pull both strings to tighten your knot. Repeat this pattern until you reach the end and secure the strings with some hot glue.
After you complete this pattern on each plastic rod, the project can be finished. However, if you have extra macrame, give the project a more cohesive look by wrapping the macrame around the pot of the plant using the same technique as the hook. If you want to add even more pizzaz to the project, try using multiple different colors. Love this look? Try the macrame hat storage solution that's as useful as it is beautiful.
