DIY A Budget-Friendly Bedside Lamp With A Few Dollar Tree Finds
With both functional and decorative advantages, having bedside lighting in your home just makes sense. Whether you want to read more at night or simply can't stand harsh overhead lights, a bedside wall sconce can help. For those who don't have the budget or the patience to mess around with traditional hard-wired sconces, don't worry. You can DIY a budget-friendly wall sconce using a few dollar store finds and eliminate the need for an electrician altogether.
Wall sconces are great, especially for maximizing space in smaller bedrooms. For this sconce, you will need a few items including a caterer's corner plastic gold lid candy jar and a remote-controlled motion sensor light with a magnetic mount — both of which can be found at the Dollar Tree. However, any jar lid with a nob and any non-wired light can work. You will also need a hot glue gun, spray paint in a color of your choosing, painter's tape, and a mounting plate with mounting screws to adhere the light to your wall.
How to make a bedside wall sconce with dollar store items
To put the wall sconce together, start by removing the gold lid from your jar. You will only need the lid for this DIY, so set the jar aside for a future project. Next, it's time to spray paint your pieces. Remember to follow common spray paint tips and cover the light portion with painter's tape to protect it. Then, begin painting the lid and the light so they are the same color. Common choices include gold, black, and white, but you can use any color that works with your home aesthetic.
Once the paint is dry, add a dollop of hot glue to the knob of your jar lid. Then, press and hold the lid against the side of your light to attach the two items together. At this point, your wall sconce is built and all that's left is to mount it to the wall. To do this, screw your mounting plate to the wall and hang the light fixture on the plate. If you want to get creative, consider different shapes of jar lid, or different metallic finishes to match. Once attached, you'll have a sconce light you'll adore.
