Jenn Todryk's Stunning Window Treatment Idea Will Make Your Bathroom Look More Luxe

When you think of giving your bathroom an upgrade, it is easy to think that changing the wall color, sink, bath, or shower is the best way to proceed. But it turns out that there may be a much quicker, cheaper fix that you might have overlooked. If you have a window in your bathroom, this is already a win, but HGTV star and designer Jenn Todryk — known for her show "No Demo Reno" — highlights one of the best ways to instantly give your bathroom a luxe feel in Episode 11 of Season 3, while still staying true to the title of show. The secret to success? Floor-length curtains.

Now, this isn't a hack that is isolated to the bathroom. In fact, adding floor-length curtains to your windows is a great way to make any room feel more expensive and trick the eye into thinking that the ceilings are taller. But it has a dual purpose in the bathroom. Not only will it lend itself to a high-end appearance, but it's also a great way to add privacy to your bathroom window without resorting to a less aesthetic choice (eg, blinds, or the quick fix that gives more last resort than luxury resort — a beach towel.) If you do choose to attempt this upgrade that Jenn Todyk suggests, be sure to invest in curtains that float slightly above, rather than pool at the ground. Though pooling drapes can look elegant, they aren't practical in a bathroom, and you don't want to risk having them soak up stray puddles.

How to get the most from this hack in your bathroom

There are a ton of helpful tips for choosing the right window treatments to use in your bathroom, and depending on the size of your bathroom and your end goal, there could even be more than one right answer for you. If you have a small space and want to keep it feeling light and airy, opt for a lighter color curtain. Having double curtains — a sheer followed by an opaque — not only adds an additional layer of texture, but also lets you adjust how much light and sight you want your window to have at a given time. Another alternative would be to have a semi-transparent shade behind the curtains that can be adjusted as needed.  As far as patterns go, you don't have to stay away. Just know that using a bolder color or pattern can make your window into more of a focal point, whereas a light or neutral color gives it a softer feel.

Don't have a window in your bathroom? Instead of floor-length window curtains, you can achieve this Jenn Todryk-inspired luxe look with a floor-length shower curtain. This is particularly effective if you place the bar a couple of inches below the ceiling. In the case of window curtains, your ideal rod height is about 4 to 6 inches above the frame, though if you have 8 feet or higher ceilings, you may be able to bring it a bit higher to enhance the drama. Ultimately, when purchasing supplies, a too long curtain is always better than too short, and this problem can be fixed by stitching a simple hem.
