Sitting on your porch admiring the beautiful front yard blooms you planted a while back will make all your hard work worth it. But what do you do if you have a black thumb or don't have the time (or inclination) to grow flowers? Instead of gazing at your neighboring house's exteriors, spruce up your space with large artificial flowers. You just need a few Dollar Tree items to craft cheery jumbo flower décor for your porch. Get a couple (you'll need at least two to three per flower) of assorted glitter wings to craft adorable petals for your florets.

Depending on the number of flowers you want to create, grab the same quantity of Essentials' Plastic Broom Handles or reuse leftover PVC pipes from another project. You'll also need a few green foam floral rings to connect your large flowers to the broom sticks. Similarly, purchase a few party bows to hide the gap in the middle of your petals. Besides these DT supplies, you'll need a sharp pair of scissors, some cardboard, your trusty hot glue gun, craft knife, a roll of duct tape, and some green paint. This DIY is a good way to turn your front porch into an outdoor oasis without spending a lot of money on top-tier artificial flowers. Plus, the process is quite simple, so even beginner-level DIYers can fashion large blooms for their porch without breaking a sweat. There's just one drawback: you can't keep it outdoors when it rains or is too windy.

How to DIY large flowers for your porch using Dollar Tree supplies

Once you have everything, snip about two to three glitter wings into two. These will act as your petals. You can add more wings to the mix if you want a really large and fluffy arrangement. Alternatively, snap the wings in four if you want to mimic a real-life flower. Now, get some cardboard and draw a circle on it. It shouldn't be too small, or you'll have a hard time attaching your petals to it. In a similar fashion, it shouldn't be too large, or you'll have difficulty camouflaging it.

With your glue gun, stick the broken wings to the cardboard one-by-one. If you're having trouble getting a steady stream of the adhesive, the secret to a better hot glue gun experience is sitting in your medicine cabinet. Next, apply the glue generously since you don't want the petals to fall off within a short span. Hide the gap in the center with a party bow. You can even use an old one you have lying around. Just ensure you pick one that goes with your petals' colors for a fancy finish. Fluff the petals and bend their edges a little to make them look organic. An additional step is to spray paint them if you want to hide their origin. While it dries, cut the broom handles in varying lengths to craft the stem for your flowers.

Tips to customize the stem and add leaves

After you have the flowers, it's time to attach their stems and leaves so you can display them on your porch. Cut the floral foam ring into three to four pieces (they can vary in length) and fit them atop your broom handles. If you managed to snag green handles, your stem is ready to be attached to the large flowers. But if you have a black one or are using a PVC pipe, purchase a roll of green crepe paper, like BEISHIDA's 9.8 Inch Long Sheet, and some Mod Podge. Apply the white paste to the back of the paper and wrap it along your broom handles.

As for the leaves, cut out the remaining crepe paper in the shape of a leaf. You can use a template or free hand it. Glue floral wire, like Floral Garden's Green Wire and Tape, along its length and breadth. This will give your leaves a sturdy structure and keep it from flopping down. Gently pull their edges to create the organic ruffles and give them character. Attach them to the stem using tape and spray paint them in a similar shade to the crepe paper to help them blend in. Now, attach the leaf-covered stem to the flowers using hot glue. To keep your flowers standing straight, turn a Dollar Tree planter upside down and pull the stem through it. You might have to plug the hole with some cardboard in case it's too large for your flowers.
