Stop Storing These Two Things Together In Your Bathroom Drawer

When your bathroom is short on storage space, you might not be super concerned about how everything is put away. It's tempting to cram all of your toiletries and bathroom essentials in one area, jamming towels, soaps, lotions, electric razors, and hairdryers in the same drawer. It can feel like the most convenient solution, but in the long run, it could prove to be a major bathroom storage mistake.

For one thing, bathrooms are a breeding ground for bacteria, and occasionally, mold. Unfortunately, many of the items we tend to keep in the bathroom are susceptible to damage and contamination, including towels, electronics, and even the drawers themselves.

Because of this, you should avoid storing liquids like skincare products, mouthwash, and soap in drawers with towels and electronic items. You might even need to find an area outside of the bathroom for some of these items. Proper storage can save you a lot of money and even create a safer environment for whoever may use the space.

Why you shouldn't store these items together and what to do instead

Unless your electronics are waterproof, you shouldn't put them in a drawer with liquids. Speakers, blow dryers, and other electronic items not only can be fire hazards, but they can be prone to corrosion and damage. Spills happen, and a crowded bathroom drawer containing electronics and liquids is a recipe for disaster. If you need your tunes while you shower, opt for a waterproof shower speaker. If possible, try to store hair styling tools outside of the bathroom entirely because over time, moisture and humidity can take a toll on electronics. However, if you must keep them in your restroom, don't put them in drawers with towels or liquids. Invest in a styling tool cover like the heat and water-resistant Neoprene Curling Iron Holder

Similarly, you should avoid leaving your towels with liquids and areas prone to moisture, as wet towels can grow mildew and harbor bacteria. It's best to store fresh towels in drier spots of the room, like a linen closet.  If you don't have a linen closet or extra drawer space, you can organize your bathroom with floating shelves, which are a great way to take advantage of wall space. You can also install IKEA wall knobs for easy bathroom storage. Just be sure to wash your towels frequently to mitigate contamination.
