Make Designer-Inspired Plant Pots With A Budget-Friendly DIY

Tiered plant pots are all the rage right now, and for good reason. They're minimalistic enough to complement any home decor and showcase the plants within. But if you're trying to save a little, these stunning plant pots might feel financially out of reach. The good news is you can recreate this designer-inspired decor with a budget-friendly DIY, using two valuable thrift store items for your garden: pots and bowls.
These common household items can be turned into beautiful planters and, luckily, they're easy to find and relatively inexpensive. Just make sure the bases match so you can easily create a cohesive look. You'll also need a strong adhesive, like Gorilla Super Glue Gel XL, spackle, such as Dap DryDex Spackle, a clear sealer, and some acrylic or ceramic paint. (One DIYer mentioned that wall paint would work as well.) And since the adhesive needs plenty of time to cure and the paint to dry, this is a great DIY to do over a weekend.
Repurpose thrifted bowls to create a stylish DIY tiered plant pot
First, find two pots that create the perfect silhouette when you place them base to base. Next, if you plan on watering the plant in the pot, make drainage holes. Mark the center directly on the bottom of a ceramic container. If it's made of glass, spread a piece of painter's tape across the base before marking the center. Grab your drill and appropriate drill bit: a ½-inch diamond-tipped hole saw bit for ceramic and a ½-inch diamond tile drill bit for glass. Sprinkle water on the surface to prevent it from getting too hot, and then slowly drill at a 45-degree angle at the center mark. On ceramic, once you create a notch, hold the drill straight and continue drilling. For glass, stop at the notch, remove the tape, and continue as with ceramic.
Next, glue the pot bases together. Apply a thin amount of spackle to smooth any possible bumps from one pot to another. Once dry, it's time to decorate. You could repurpose this TikTok hack that gives a boring vase a trendy upgrade by mixing baking soda into acrylic paint to create a terracotta texture. Apply two coats, allowing each to dry in between. Or, for less texture but more color, paint a base layer, and then use painter's tape and a bright color to add horizontal or vertical stripes. Maybe even draw polka dots on the outside for a little more joy. And finally, finish everything off with a sealant, like Mod Podge Clear Acrylic Sealer, to ensure your DIY lasts.
