Choosing the right tile for your space can be a fun and rewarding experience. But walking into the bathroom and discovering that a piece of your carefully chosen tile has fallen off the wall and into the tub can be a tad frustrating, especially if it's located in a tight area or around appliances. You're faced with a dilemma: fix it yourself, or call a contractor. Well, with small repairs, the former may be well worth the effort, especially if you're unsure about what to look for when choosing a tile contractor and want it fixed fast. Before you reach for your phone to call someone for the job, take note that you may be able to solve the problem yourself. All that may be required is a roll of Gorilla Glue mounting tape.

Imagine paying $11 for a roll of double-sided tape instead of $150 or more for a handyman — yes, it may be possible with this heavy-duty tape. The Gorilla Glue mounting tape can form strong bonds to several surfaces, including ceramic, metal, glass, porcelain, and other commonly used building materials. It's very simple to use and can be easily cut with a pair of all-purpose scissors. This tape may just be the one secret weapon you can use for tile fixes and a variety of other household repair tasks.

Steps to use Gorilla Glue tape to repair tile

To repair your tile using the Gorilla Glue mounting tape, start by wiping it down to remove debris or dirt that may prevent the tape from bonding to it. Also, do this for the surface to which you'll be bonding the tile. If the surface is unreachable by hand, consider using a handheld vacuum instead. Next, hold the tile piece in the desired location to ensure that it'll be flush with the surrounding tiles once the tape is applied. If not, you may need to double the tape.

Next, grab your scissors and cut the mounting tape so that it fits on the back of the tile piece (cut two pieces if needed to make it flush). Then, cut another piece for the surface where the tile will be bonded. Note that the manufacturer recommends 4 inches of mounting tape per pound of weight. Once you've cut your tape pieces, remove the liner and place the first piece firmly onto your bonding surface.

Then, remove the liner and place the other piece on the back of your tile and adhere it to the bonding surface. Hold it there for about 30 seconds to ensure a secure bond. Lastly, add grout or caulk to the area surrounding the tile. This will help in preventing cracks in the tile from moisture seepage.
