Are Aldi's Peel-And-Stick Vinyl Wraps A DIY Disaster For Home Decor, Or Worth Trying Out?

If you want a quick, affordable, and basic DIY project that any homeowner can do, one of the best things to invest in is some peel and stick vinyl. While you can find rolls of this material all over the internet as well as in home improvement stores, some of your most budget-friendly options may be hiding out where you least expect it — Aldi. That's right, peel and stick vinyl has been added to the discount brand's roster, with rolls of 20.5 inches by 18 feet selling for just $10. The vinyl was most recently available online in three different patterns — marble, light wood grain, and an Art Deco-esque geometric design. Being so affordable however, it was also pretty high demand, so if you want to get your hands on these, you will have to search in person or wait for them to come back in stock.

While it may look similar to a peel and stick wallpaper, vinyl is much more durable and tends to hold up better in high-moisture and high-use areas. This one is also made with a water-based glue, which makes it relatively easy to remove if you should want to replace it in the future. The great thing about vinyl sheets is that they can also be cut to whatever size you would like — you can use them in smaller areas like the lining of drawers and cabinets, or even on the exterior of the cabinets themselves for a budget-friendly kitchen upgrade that won't require remodeling

How Aldi's vinyl holds up to competitors

While this vinyl wrap seems to be newer to US markets, it was previously available in Europe, and according to comments and social media posts made by customers, it seemed to work pretty well — if you are looking for a temporary fix, that is. One comment noted that you can't place anything hot on top of the vinyl, so it may not be the best choice for countertops, especially those near the sink or stove. On the other hand, some comments mentioned that they had installed vinyl available previously years ago and it was still holding up well.

Although this vinyl may not be the top quality on the market, the price is certainly hard to beat. Most vinyl wraps will cost at least twice as much, with some even reaching into the hundreds of dollars. Currently these aren't available online, but there is a good chance that a similar product will return eventually, so it's best to keep your eyes peeled for the best deals.
