The Simple IKEA Trick That'll Do Wonders For Your Kitchen & Bathroom Towel Storage

Some people say that you can never have enough towels. While this may be true for many, others struggle with finding places for all the towels they have. Common solutions include building more wall shelving, using storage containers, and placing towels in other closets. But the truth is that towels don't always like to behave, washcloths in particular. You put them in the kitchen drawer or closet, and they may simply flop over to one side. Or they'll somehow end up hidden in piles in your bathroom (along with other laundry in a bin that might as well have a 'lost and found' sign glued to it).

However, there is a creative IKEA storage hack that can help you keep your washcloths visible and in reach, whether in your kitchen or on the bathroom wall — and it isn't a towel rack. IKEA's OSTBIT bamboo plate holder is the perfect buy to keep your unruly hand towels in order. Though designed for dinnerware, it makes for a small and convenient tool that can help you organize smaller towels.

It's also cost-effective, coming in at only $5.99 per holder. Each one can fit six folded small towels. You can use it to store hand towels, dish towels, or those microfiber cloths that you use to clean your glassware. So, if you've been struggling to find a spot for towels or are looking for ways to make your bathroom feel more like a spa with fancy towel displays, consider giving this plate holder a try.

Setting up the plate holder as a towel rack

This holder gives you a beautiful way to hang your bathroom towels without spending a lot of money on materials or time putting up floating shelves. Consider buying one or two racks for your bathroom or kitchen. Alternatively, you can place the racks inside a drawer if you don't want to keep your towels on the wall.

To hang the holder on the wall, all you need to do is purchase a roll of Beyotool double-sided tape for $2.99. Before hanging it up, be sure to use a microfiber cloth to wipe off the plate holder as well as the area on the wall where it will be placed, to ensure a good bond. Next, cut a couple of 1-inch strips from the roll. Then, place one strip at each end of the holder's sides. Finally, mount the holder on the wall, pressing both ends firmly in place.

You can even make it fancier by spray painting the rack to match your bathroom decor or kitchen countertops. Have a guest bathroom? Buy a couple more holders and add them to the walls as a nice decorative touch. When folding your washcloths, be sure to first fold them in half and then fold them in thirds to ensure that they fit in each slot on the holder. If adding the holders to drawers, consider combining them with a Vtopmart drawer organizer for even more tidiness. This can be especially helpful for kitchen or junk drawers.
