Upcycle Old Jeans Into The Most Stylish Drop Zone For Glasses & Keys
Everyone needs a place to drop their keys and essentials at the end of the day. Whether it be on a hook, in a bowl, or perhaps just on an entry table — it's nice to have a spot where you can purge your pockets. There's a popular trend floating around the internet that allows you to ditch your traditional key holder, and instead create one that's much more stylish. It involves repurposing a pair of old jeans into the cutest catch-all frame — perfect for holding onto keys, sunglasses, and all of the items you stuff into your pockets each morning. What's great is that it's a simple DIY that you can complete in just minutes.
You're going to need a pair of jeans for the project, but they can be any kind you like. Feel free to grab your old skinny jeans, your flares, or your ripped high-waisted ones. The only thing that matters is that you choose pants (or shorts) with back pockets, since the pockets play a big role in keeping all of your items safe and in one place. If you're someone who's heavily into fashion — you might want to go through your jeans drawer to see if you have some with a label you like, and that you're willing to sacrifice. To keep the project cost down, only use a pair that you were going to get rid of anyways, or cheap ones from a thrift store. You can even break out your old 1980s acid wash jeans if you still have them in the attic.
Here's how to turn your denim into a fashionable key holder
The other required item you're going to need is a picture frame that can be hung on the wall or set on a table. Start by removing the back of the frame and taking out the glass. Then, using the frame's back cardboard as a measuring tool, cut a piece of denim that will fit perfectly inside. Remember, the main goal is to frame the pocket. After you have the right-sized piece, close it inside the frame (without the glass), so that the jean pocket is front and center. Hang or place your frame in a convenient spot, such as in the kitchen or near the front door.
All that's left to do is fill it with all the things you typically use on a daily basis. Hang your keys and sunglasses from the pocket, or clip a lanyard to a belt loop. Store your spare change, lip gloss, or pens inside the denim pocket. You can even add several fake flowers for a decorative touch. Or, cut the fabric so that it features your favorite jeans label to make it even fancier. If you have a bigger family, consider filling a larger frame with multiple pockets so that each person gets their own. Not only is it an adorable way to repurpose worn-out jeans, but it's a creative storage idea for a clutter-free entryway, too.
