The Stunning Light Decor You Can DIY Using An Affordable Dollar Tree Toy
Is there a gloomy corner in your living room crying out for some light? Lighting plays such a key part in setting the mood of a room, but lamps can be pricey, especially exquisite floor lamps with a creative design twist. This DIY solves that by using Hot Wheels tracks from Dollar Tree and LED strip lights to create a standing lamp that is as unique as it is affordable. Of all the clever ways to use LED light strips to brighten up your home in style, this stunning decor DIY takes the prize for sheer elegance.
You'll need a 2-pack Hot Wheels Race Track, a Crafters Square block (or some Crafters Square MDF Wood Plank Boards cut down to size), a wooden pole, an LED strip light, spray paint, and decorative gems. Attach the pole securely to the block by drilling through the center of the block and screwing the pole into place. Screw one plastic track to the top of the pole, then twist and secure the bottom halfway down, allowing for a slight bulge in the track. Attach the second track as a continuation of the first. Continue the twist and secure the bottom near the base. Spray paint the whole structure black.
Glue an LED strip light down the center of the track, running from top to bottom. Cover the entire surface of both tracks with plastic gems that create a sophisticated glow from the LED lights below. Most LED lights come with a remote control so you can change the color to blend in with the decor of the room, or the ambience you want to create.
Adapting the DIY lamp to suit your home
Whether you're looking to add a glow to a dining room or amp up the atmosphere in the living room, choosing the perfect floor lamp for your space no longer has to cost a fortune. By creating your own, you also have creative license to change the design to better suit your needs. Instead of using regular angular-shaped gems as in the video below, you could opt for Clear Glass Accent Gems for a softer sparkle. You can also paint the wood block a different color, or add cute patterns to it.

Use this basic design to create a magnificent pendant light over your dining room table. Skip attaching the pole to a base, and screw in hooks at both ends. With a pair of hooks in the ceiling and two lengths of chain, you can easily suspend the lit pole to light your dining area. Electrical LEDs will require a longer light cable to snake up one chain, run across the ceiling, and down to a power source, or you can use a battery-operated set.
Adapt this DIY as one of the best desk lamps you can get for under $50. Hot Wheels tracks are wonderfully bendy and can be used to form a circular shape. Do away with the pole and attach the two tracks in a circle, directly onto the block. You can choose whether to glue the LED light strip to the inner circle for a muted glow, around the outside for a wider light casting, or both for a brighter result.
