HGTV's Jeremiah Brent Proves That The Color-Drenching Trend Can Also Look Timeless
When it comes to the design aesthetic of HGTV's Jeremiah Brent, he's known for his more modern-meets-traditional style. This includes opting for neutral color palettes. Recently, Brent took to Instagram to share a look at one design choice that truly feels timeless. His post showcased the idea of color drenching, which he used in his former studio space. In all three pictures shared, the space features shades of gray as an alternative to white paint, with other neutrals interspersed to pull everything together.
Not familiar with color drenching? This design technique gives a room a monochromatic makeover. The entire room gets painted in a single color, and throughout the room, other shades of the same color are also used to complete the look. Even the furniture, cabinets, and appliances are typically in a similar hue to the walls.
The idea behind the color-drenching painting trend is that you're creating a space that is both cohesive and dramatic. This technique can actually reduce visual clutter because there are fewer contrasting colors in the room, whether via furnishings or decorative objects. And depending on the color chosen, you could create a cozy space to relax in or a vibrant room that really makes a statement.
How Jeremiah Brent keeps a color-drenched room timeless
When asked about color drenching in a bedroom, Jeremiah Brent explained why he loved this technique, saying it's "all about the freedom to explore, but being tethered to that color throughout" (via Architectural Digest YouTube). He goes on to say that he finds this monochromatic look to be "really sophisticated." Some of the color palettes he highlighted when utilizing this trend include pale blues and olive green. However, he also pointed out that you can use neutral shades when color drenching, but they need to be used more thoughtfully.
In Brent's former studio, he chose gray walls and floor-to-ceiling curtains and leaned into other neutral colors (such as black, white, and brown) for the rest of the decor. The chairs are black, while a console table near the windows is a natural wood tone. Even the sconces on the wall are wooden. This creates a room that doesn't rely on trends to be stylish, but rather on the colors themselves to keep everything looking timeless and cohesive.
No matter where in your house you choose to try the color-drenching paint trend, it's all about committing to a color palette. For instance, in another bedroom that Brent designed, he went with an all-white space accented by beige and brown pillows. Choosing a neutral look like this makes the space more adaptable over time as well, as you can always bring more color in later with small pieces. Neutral color drenching, in particular, is about creating a space that feels complete while still allowing you to add a pop of color whenever you want.
