Reuse Old Cardboard To DIY A Clever And Stylish Toilet Paper Storage Solution

Loo rolls are a necessity we're all grateful for. But let's face it, they're not particularly pretty. If you're looking for an attractive toilet roll storage solution you can DIY with cardboard boxes, look no further. Cardboard, jute, fabric, and glue are all you need for this charming roll holder.

Customize your holder to fit the size and number of rolls you want to keep handy by lining them up on a piece of cardboard. Note the size and cut a rectangle. Use a round lid to trace a curve at each corner of the rectangle and cut it to create rounded edges. Cut another rectangle to match, though trim it slightly smaller to fit in as a base. Cut a longer strip, wider than the height of a loo roll and long enough to go around your rectangle, joining strips if necessary. Bend the long strip at each corrugation to make a smooth curve, which makes gluing easier and forms smooth, rounded corners.

Use hot glue to attach the long strip all around the edge of the curved rectangle, gluing where the ends meet. Cover the join with brown packaging tape to make it stronger. Next, cover the holder by gluing jute or other sacking material all around it, as well as on the base, then trim off the excess. Make a lining by gluing soft cotton fabric to the top of the outer rim, then folding it over and tucking it into the holder. Cover the smaller rectangle in the cotton fabric, too, and insert it as a base.

Dressing up your toilet roll holder to suit the style of your bathroom

At this point, your holder will already look quite beautiful, but adding a finishing touch will complete it. Stay with the rustic feel by adding a handle on the front. If you don't have sisal rope, you can use a wooden curtain ring and attach it using a strip of faux leather and a silver stud, or a piece of ribbon. Using jute and cotton creates a natural vibe, but you can adapt the style of your holder by changing what you cover it with. Fabric and wallpaper are both great jute replacements.

If you're looking for ways to get that vintage bathroom look, switch out the jute covering with vintage-looking wallpaper. Pick something with a smaller design, such as SOON AFTER Floral Peel and Stick Wallpaper, and use a lining fabric that picks up on one of the colors in the design. Find a vintage handle at a thrift store to finish it off. Or you could cut up a thrifted curtain or velvet cushion cover for a nod at old-world charm.

For a luxe bathroom with golden elements, use wallpaper in the same metallic shade as your fittings. Something like the Livelynine Gold Grasscloth Textured Wallpaper is strong, drop-dead gorgeous, and budget-friendly. To bring an industrial style into your bathroom, opt for wallpaper with a metallic finish, matte black fabric, or monochromatic colors. Replace the ring handle with a cabinet pull that suits your décor.
