A Budget-Friendly DIY To Create A Charming Garden Walkway

A garden walkway can add charm and structure to your yard, making every stroll feel peaceful and intentional. It's a beautiful way to connect different parts of the garden, especially when framed by flowers or greenery. However, having one professionally installed can be surprisingly expensive due to materials, labor, and design. Fortunately, installing one yourself isn't too difficult. One charming option features stepping stone flowers that you can put in your yard, which will save you a ton of money on labor and design costs. All you need for this budget-friendly garden walkway is a shovel, Red Crescent Edger Blocks, and the 14-inch Round Patio Block – both available online at Menards.

You will need eight crescent bricks per patio block, and the cost of each stepping stone flower will total around $15. This creates a custom garden walkway path for a small fraction of what you would pay to have something like this professionally installed. Not only is this a budget-friendly DIY project, but it's also super straightforward and customizable, as well.

How to install a flower garden walkway

To start this DIY garden path, you need to select where you want the steps. Since the crescent-shaped edger bricks are 4⅜ inches deep, add this to the 14-inch diameter of the patio blocks when planning your layout. Once you have your blocks, lay them out on your lawn where they will be installed. Use a shovel to mark the ground around the crescent bricks where you will dig. Then, remove all of the cement blocks and dig out the dirt. The round cement blocks are just over an inch and a half tall, and the crescent blocks are almost two and a half inches tall, so keep this in mind when you are clearing the dirt, or you may end up with an uneven walkway. Finally, place the blocks and fill in the gaps with dirt.

If you like this DIY, but you want to take the flower theme to the next level, you can paint the concrete blocks before installing them. Start by thoroughly cleaning the blocks. Then, prime and paint them with weather-resistant latex or acrylic paint that's made for outdoor use. The crescent blocks come in brick color and regular cement grey. So, if you plan on painting the "petals" a light color, it's best to purchase the grey ones.
